The Center for Data Science (CDS) and the Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science (CAOS), a unit of the Department of Mathematics within the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University, seeks candidates for one (1) open-rank joint faculty position, anticipated to begin in September 2025. Faculty members are expected to be outstanding scholars and to participate in teaching at all levels from undergraduate to doctoral. The ideal candidate will be firmly engaged in both the fields of data science and climate physics. This search is part of a cluster hire in Predicting Climate Change and its Impacts: From the Global to Urban Scale that includes the departments of Mathematics and Computer Science in the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Civil and Urban Engineering in the Tandon School of Engineering, and the Center for Data Science. Advances in climate science prediction will require transformative developments in and between mathematics, data science, computer science, physics, engineering and geoscience. The goal of the Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science (https://caos.cims.nyu.edu/dynamic/) , a unit within the Mathematics Department, is to advance our understanding of and ability to predict the coupled atmosphere, ocean and ice system through the use of mathematical and computational tools and analysis of observations. Both the CDS and the Courant Institute host vibrant interdisciplinary PhD programs, and a number of faculty hold joint appointments at both centers. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this open-rank position is $100,000 - $150,000 for the rank of Assistant Professor, $120,000 - $180,000 for the rank of Associate Professor, and $165,000 - $265,000 for the rank of Full Professor.
