The Margolis laboratory is seeking one full-time Junior Research Scientist to join our team, studying the biology of the enteric nervous system (ENS) and the role of the gut in brain-gut axis disorders. The candidate will work closely with lab members in the design and implementation of experiments that use mouse genetic models, pharmacological trials and surgical interventions to investigate the role of the ENS in gastrointestinal function, motility, inflammatory bowel diseases, mood and behavioral disorders, as well as disorders of gut-brain interactions. The laboratory is housed within the Pain Research Center at New York University, a vibrant, highly collaborative scientific community comprised of a team of ten established Principal Investigators (and actively recruiting) who are experts in diverse fields with a common interest in cell signaling and the study of pain, as well as their post-docs, graduate and college students and assistant research scientists. We are seeking to hire a bright, self-motivated and organized individual who is quick to learn new techniques, and feels comfortable working independently as well as with others. Some evening and weekend work will be necessary. A minimum of a one-year commitment required. Primary job responsibilities include performing experiments and maintaining the mouse colony (breeding, genotyping, and administering treatments to genetically-modified mice). Experiments will involve mouse dissection, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, qPCR, immunoblotting, FACS, confocal microscopy, and behavioral studies. Secondary responsibilities will include ordering supplies, maintenance of stock reagents, and management of lab expenditures.
