The role involves ensuring the reliability and security of network and telecommunication systems for over 3,000 employees and supporting critical operations at borough halls, NYS Courts, and other city agencies. The engineer must work independently, perform fieldwork, and manage day-to-day network operations while coordinating with the IT Network team to complete infrastructure modernization projects.Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Upgrade & Deployment:

Upgrade network infrastructure at 55+ managed sites, replacing outdated hardware with modern solutions.

Install and configure Cisco Catalyst, Nexus switches, Cisco VoIP devices, and Meraki wireless solutions.

Implement and troubleshoot protocols, including EIGRP, BGP, TCP/IP, UDP, SSL, DNS, VLANs, VPC, STP, QoS, and ACLs.

Design and integrate LAN solutions, considering legacy equipment upgrades and patching requirements.

Fieldwork & Deployment Process:

Travel to various customer sites to perform hardware installations, data gathering, and troubleshooting.

Unpack, inventory, rack, and connect network equipment as per vendor specifications.

Document and manage inventory using spreadsheets and the customer asset inventory system.

Remove debris and ensure site readiness post-installation.

Network Management & Troubleshooting:

Perform day-to-day configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Cisco Firepower firewalls, ISE, Stealthwatch, and DNAC.

Utilize network management tools such as Wireshark, TCPDUMP, and NetFlow for diagnostics.

Conduct network and security assessments to optimize performance and design.

Project & Documentation:

Provide project planning for implementation and maintenance windows.

Develop and maintain documentation, including network diagrams, MOPs, and operational guides.

Support design recommendations based on Cisco best practices.

Mandatory Skills/Experience:

At least 12 years of experience in IT network engineering or technician roles.

Strong understanding of complex routing and switching environments.

Expertise with Meraki wireless solutions, Firewalls, DNA, and Cisco ISE.

Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and perform fieldwork, including physical tasks such as cabling and equipment installation.

Strong customer support and interpersonal skills in client-facing roles.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

Experience with Cisco WLAN, ISE, and Meraki Wi-Fi deployment.

Familiarity with ITIL processes, including Incident Management, Change Management, and Problem Management.

Active CCNA certification is preferred.

Work Conditions:

Travel across five boroughs to customer's-managed buildings for network installations and troubleshooting.

Occasional extended hours for critical troubleshooting or project tasks.

Physical tasks, including lifting and installing equipment.
