Senior Accountant

Description We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team in the non-profit sector. This role will focus on overseeing accounting and financial reporting for investment accounts and investment-related subsidiaries, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulations, and the efficient management of grant-related finances. The Senior Accountant will collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and external tax preparers to meet all regulatory obligations, support IRS compliance for private foundations, and contribute to the improvement of internal financial processes.Key Responsibilities:Investment Accounting and Reporting:

Oversee the accounting and financial reporting of investment accounts and investment-related subsidiaries.

Record, track, and analyze investment activities for tax and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) reporting purposes.

Maintain cost-basis investment schedules and calculate realized gains for tax reporting.

Grants Management:

Manage technical accounting for grants, including reviewing and tracking conditional grants.

Calculate net present value discounts and address any additional technical accounting requirements related to grants.

Tax Compliance:

Collaborate with external tax preparers to ensure timely and accurate filing of federal and state returns.

Prepare and maintain internal tax schedules for Form 990-PF and Form 990-T filings and manage related compliance processes.

Ensure the foundation complies with IRS rules for private foundations and escalate compliance issues as necessary.

Technical Accounting and Research:

Research technical accounting and tax issues and prepare memos documenting complex matters and decisions.

Coordinate with management, external auditors, and tax accountants as appropriate.

Collaboration and Cross-Functional Support:

Work closely with cross-functional internal teams, including the related family office, with a primary focus on investments and grant-specific matters.

Month-End and Year-End Close:

Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis related to monthly and yearly close cycles as needed.

External Reporting and Compliance:

Manage recurring reporting requirements, including external requests such as notices, audit confirmations, regulatory filings, and surveys.

Regulatory Knowledge:

Stay up-to-date on US GAAP, IRS regulations, and other regulatory developments impacting private foundations.

ERP System Implementation:

Contribute to the design and implementation of the foundation’s new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system.

Process Improvement:

Support ongoing efforts to streamline operations, automate manual tasks, and propose strategies to improve efficiency.

Requirements Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification

Proven experience in Account Reconciliation, Balance Sheet Reconciliation, and Bank Reconciliations Proficiency in working with General Ledger and making Journal Entries Skilled in using Microsoft Excel for financial tasks and reports Experience with Month End Close procedures Familiarity with Tax - Form 990 and its relevant procedures Knowledge and understanding of US GAAP standards Prior experience in a senior accounting role within the Non-Profit industry is preferred Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
