Position Overview
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) supports the General Manager in daily operations of the Manhattan location. Focusing on team management, scheduling, operational excellence, and maintaining our unique brand culture. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing shifts, delegating tasks, and ensuring seamless execution of all store activities.
Key Responsibilities
Scheduling & Team Management
Work with GM to oversee day-to-day team operations, delegate tasks, and confirm completion of all responsibilities.
Collaborate with GM on staffing needs, hiring, and onboarding of new team members.
Operational Oversight & Reporting
Own and report on daily checklists, ensuring delegated tasks are completed thoroughly.
Collaborate with GM to compile and submit daily progress reports, highlighting any operational challenges or successes.
Support the GM in collecting and consolidating service reports from the team.
Inventory Management
Manage inventory for all classes and special seating events, maintaining organization and stock levels.
Handle inventory reporting for the Greenpoint location and coordinate with GM on broader inventory oversight.
Assist in developing and maintaining efficient storage systems, including back-of-house organization.
Maintain and support the Art Cafe inventory area and assist in ensuring cleanliness and organization.
Brand & Training Support
Help roll out and reinforce training documents and checklists across the team.
Promote and uphold Happy Medium’s hospitality standards, visual presentation, and overall brand culture.
Facility & Maintenance Coordination
Assist with general building maintenance tasks such as minor repairs (e.g., fixing a clogged toilet).
Coordinate regular trash removal, ensuring that trash and recycling are taken out twice weekly.
Liaise with the GM and Operations team to report larger maintenance needs and coordinate vendor visits as necessary.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Liaise with the Pottery Manager regarding space needs and collaboration opportunities.
Qualifications
2+ years experience in retail, hospitality, creative operations, or related fields.
Proven ability to lead a small team and delegate effectively.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Comfortable managing schedules, daily operations, and inventory processes.
Detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple priorities.
Passion for handmade goods, creative retail, and community-driven experiences.
Positive attitude and passion for both the Happy Medium brand and central mission.
