We're seeking an experienced litigator who will hold an of counsel position with our firm and take responsibility for deciding on litigation strategies and tactics and drafting motions and pleadings in consultation with lead counsel.
The position requires the ability to complete the paperwork without the assistance of a paralegal. You should:
Be familiar with the requirements of the CPLR and the uniform and local rules applicable to each case.
Understand the requirements to submit a complete complaint, OSC, motion, CPLR 3213 proceeding or subpoena, or oppose any of those, in addition to being able to decide from the outset which of those to use if we are the plaintiff or select a strategy to oppose the above if we are the defense.
Be able to independently calculate the time available to respond to the above, track and comply with deadlines, and maintain/organize the emails and case files. FRCP knowledge/experience is a plus.
Be highly mindful of budget. You’ll need to estimate the time involved with various strategies under consideration throughout the case and frequently go with the most budget-friendly option. Each time work needs to be done on the case, you’ll need to consult the case manager regarding the budget.
This remote, contract position is expected to take 5 to 15 hours per week, depending on the week. Pay is $50/hr., each project payable on a pre-negotiated, flat-rate basis.
