What is a Supervisor – Accounts Payable & Financial Records?The Supervisor – Accounts Payable & Financial Records leads and supervises a team that is responsible for tracking the approval process of payments and allows the business to operate efficiently with third party vendors for services performed, materials and supplies. The team works closely with numerous groups/departments including all of Accounting, Regulatory Planning, Treasury, Finance & Planning, and Internal Audit. The Supervisor leads the coordination amongst their direct team and the other accounting departments to manage the three-day monthly accounting close and ensures timelines are maintained to facilitate external reporting deadlines. The Supervisor provides support and follow up as needed to ensure information is obtained for month end accruals as needed and is responsible for creating and maintaining the general ledger accounts in accordance with the Uniform System of Accounts. The Supervisor is also responsible for reviewing and approving month end reconciliations, budget to actual and year over year analytics, and completeness and accuracy of reporting templates prepared by the Financial Records team in accordance with required timelines. Additionally, the Supervisor is actively involved in the quarter-end and year-end audit requests and deadlines of the independent external auditors and owns and ensures timely completion of the department’s Sarbanes Oxley controls.What does a Supervisor – Accounts Payable & Financial Records do?
Supervises General Accounting activities related to the integrity of financial records including the coordination of the monthly accounting close
Reviews and approves monthly account reconciliations and analyses and assists in quarterly and annual financial reporting to parent company and regulators
Maintains ownership and oversight of the mainframe systems for Financial Account System (FAS), Material Management System (MMS), and expense statement activity of the Time Management System (TMS) as well as the OnBase software application
Owns internal controls over general ledger and accounts payable processes; assists internal and external auditors related to all controls and transactional testing procedures
Co-owner of monthly Purchasing Card processes under PCR 21
Responsible for annual 1099 tax preparation and filing with IRS
Responsible for the development and engagement of Accounts Payable & Financial Records department personnel
Responsible for the development of strong working relationships with other departments to ensure timely communication of information
Creates a work environment where change is embraced and employees are encouraged to continually seek improvements
Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts
What does it take to be a Supervisor – Accounts Payable & Financial Records?Required:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and 3+ years of related accounting, accounts payable, or related experience
Strong computer skills including a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (specifically Excel) and the ability to learn computer software programs quickly
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills and the ability to work with internal and external customers while fostering an interactive team environment that embraces change
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to research, interpret, recommend, and implement changes as needed and work in a deadline-oriented, fast paced environment
Must be able to analyze business results including identifying, investigating, and projecting future impacts of variations
Must maintain high expectations of employees under direct supervision and work to develop the team to consistently meet and/or exceed expectations
Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
Supervisory experience
Working knowledge of mainframes, OnBase AP automation, SAP, and the FERC Uniform System of Accounts
Previous experience leading projects and/or teams; supervisory experience
Work experience in the regulated electric and gas utility industry
Work experience with Lean Six Sigma managerial concepts
