GENERAL PURPOSE:The Deputy to the Chief supports the professional functions of the Chief of Cardiology and Cardiac Care senior leadership team. Serving as the principal deputy for senior leadership in administrative and related matters, the Deputy to the Chief coordinates the activities within the Executive Office of the Department of Cardiology, inclusive of the Division of Cardiology¿s senior leadership team. This position will also play a pivotal leadership role in fostering a strong people-focused culture for the division in a strategic and proactive manner across URMC¿s 7 hospital health system.The Deputy to the Chief will work closely with and align the work among the Cardiology leadership team with faculty and departmental leadership to facilitate communications, execute new initiatives across the system, and provide business-related and people/culture support to programs and senior management. In managing all responsibilities, this position will demonstrate progressively increasing leadership, seek to continually improve the quality and customer responsiveness in every aspect of their responsibilities, and adhere to the highest levels of confidentiality in all matters.RESPONSIBILITIES:Chief of Cardiology Executive Support

Delivers tactical project management for the executive team, independently leading work to completion timely, effectively and on budget.

Briefs and prepares the Chief for important internal and external meetings and events, performing relevant research as needed.

Plans, coordinates and manages meetings to ensure topics remain focused on strategic priorities, and that projects are completed on deadline.

Serves as a liaison for the Chief including attending key internal and external meetings. Executes critical communications on behalf of the Chief as needed.

Monitors emerging needs and interests among key stakeholders including faculty, independent-practice providers and community partners/community-based organizations (CBOs).

Acts as a key advisor to Chief on critical changes in the competitive landscape and external payer environment.

Monitors and assists in the preparation of relevant internal and external communications and events pertaining to the Department.

Serves as a principal liaison to the Public Relations and Communications Team, Government Relations and to the Advancement Office.

Supports the Chief in Health Equity and Community Relations activities.

Produces interval and annual reports and presentations on strategic and tactical progress of the Division.

Strategic Planning

Review benchmarking data to identify areas for program expansion.

In alignment with the Human Resources, develop and implement people & culture strategies programs, policies, and practices aligned with the goals and priorities of Cardiology.

Facilitates development of strategic initiatives, including the Rochester area and the region.

Collaborates with the URMC strategic planning teams and plans and coordinates sessions for the Cardiology strategic plan and assists with the development of action plans, metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Coordinates and assures timely execution of action plans across multiple priorities identified by the Senior Leadership Team so that objectives are met and reported in a timely fashion. Identifies and enables opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the broader service line team.

Works with operations to improve processes, develop staff skills, and build an engaged, positive work environment.

Explore complex people/team issues in collaboration with the Human Resources, advocate for the best approaches, and ensure compliance with university policies.

Cardiology Governance Coordination

Coordinates all activities of the Cardiology Executive Committee including meeting attendance, agenda preparation, minutes creation, drafts of talking points, and timely distribution of materials.

Assists committee directors in preparation of materials.

Develops and provides oversight for document sharing platforms including BOX and SharePoint sites to host committees¿ materials.

Provides occasional research and analysis support, providing concise and organized reports as needed.

Conducts research as required through situational analyses and gathering of background information. Prepares superior written analyses of outcomes.

Other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Business, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field, or equivalent training or experience in a specialty suited to the assignment required.

3 years relevant work experience including substantial work at a managerial level, preferably in an academic/medical institution required.

or equivalent combination of education and experience required

Experience in HR management, employee relations, organizational development, or related field preferred.
