The Construction Skills Instructor uses the NCCER construction curriculum, YouthBuild, to teach students as a pre apprentice program. The Construction Skills Instructor leverages his/her professional experience to help program participants navigate community educational, training and employment opportunities. The Construction Skills Instructor acts as a support, guide and coach to the Youth Build participants while inspiring them to be successful during and after completion of the program. During part of each year, the Construction Skills Specialist will also act as a Field Instructor to YB students at the job site. This includes managing the work assigned to students and instructing on the job. Effectively supports ongoing and collaborative communication amongst all program staff and is responsible for ensuring a trauma informed care environment.Pay Range: $55,000 - $60,000 annual, depending on experienceEssential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Program Manager on parameters of the Youth Build program and expected roles of the Agency, Mentor, Recruitment Coordinator, Job Placement Specialist, and participants.

Collaborate with participants in formulating a service plan outlining activities for Mentor and participants to conduct.

Assist with new participant orientation.

Engage with Youth Build participants on agreed upon activities. These include but are not limited to:

Complete career plans.

Make referrals for supportive services as needed.

Meetings and site supervision to assess and discuss progress.

Serve as source of support and guidance for participants.

Organize events to encourage a sense of community, promoting program retention.

Communicate regularly with the Job Placement Specialist to maintain activity alignment with the established career plan.

Maintain participant confidentiality and appropriately handle client’s information in accordance with CCFCS and HIPAA standards.

Ability to work effectively and communicate with young adults who may be at risk.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Provide hands on instruction to students at on site location.

Communicate with Flower City Habitat for Humanity regarding the work site and necessary progress.

Participates in relevant Agency meetings and/or trainings

Actively pursues development of professional competencies related to job role performance through reading, supervision, in-service training and attendance at conferences and workshops.

Awareness and active support of the Agency's Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan. Including, but not limited to, supporting the Agency's Core Competency initiatives of being Collaborative and Community Focused, Innovative and Entrepreneurial, and Culturally Competent and Diverse

Employees are required to follow appropriate supervisory direction and perform other related duties as required.QualificationsQualificationsEducation: Associate’s or higher degree in Human Services, Education, Social Work or related field preferred.Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.Credentials: NCCER Certified or willing to become certified once hired . Clean and valid NY State Drivers’ LicenseExperience: All NCCER instructors must meet standard minimum requirements. Instructors must be approved by the ABC; successfully complete the NCCER Craft Instructor Certification Training Program (ICTP), and, be at a journeyman level or higher in their respective trade with at least 5-years supervisory experience. Instructor will utilize the workbooks and power point presentations for all related classroom training as well as performance testing with students.
