Our mission is to make the world healthier, cleanier, and safer.Location/Division Specific InformationThe Rochester Manufacturing site is a member the Laboratory Products Division within Thermo Fisher Scientific. Our laboratory equipment and products are used primarily by pharmaceutical companies for drug discovery, development, and used by biotechnology companies and universities for life science research and promotes prevention and cure diseases while improving the standard of life. Our offering consists of equipment, accessories, and services for sample preparation, storage and protection, and analysis.Discover Impactful Work:The EHS Specialist III has oversight for the site's safety, regulatory compliance, safety training and worker's compensation programs. This position provides guidance and support to internal and external clients on EH&S matters. The role supports the Site Leader in ensuring compliance with EH&S regulations and practices.How will you make an impact?

Encourage a culture where employees at all levels take ownership for safety.

Engage employees in safety initiatives to eliminate or control safety hazards and reduce risk of an injury or environmental exposure.

Drive associate participation in site safety initiatives including Safety Gemba walks, Hazard ID and Near Miss Reporting, Safety Inspections, and Safety Council activities.

Provide leadership & support for training programs to build EHS technical, management and leadership skills of site leadership team and employees.

Assists with ensuring that all licensing, permitting, or other environmental, health or safety requirements are met at assigned site and takes appropriate actions to ensure that any non-compliance issues are resolved. Advances concerns as appropriate.

Ensures safe removal and disposal of hazardous/biological waste from facility on a regular basis. Maintains and monitors waste manifest system. Completes reporting forms and documents for all required regulatory agencies.

Supports management on Worker’s Compensation issues to supply information on related claims for the insurance company. Assists management in conducting work-related injury/illness investigation.

Analyze and communicate site EHS performance against expectations, communicate feedback, establish and supervise required actions to improve performance

Evaluate facility EHS conditions, assess risks and develop appropriate corrective-action plans and budgets to address deficiencies in comparison to regulations and internal policy/protocol

Maintain site information on the Intelex database and supervise corrective action items to completion.

Lead investigations in responding to significant incidents and government requests/notices

Perform environmental compliance duties including wastewater reporting, storm water inspections and other duties as assigned.

Conduct risk assessments and inspections to identify potential environmental and workplace hazards, violations, programs deficiencies and liabilities. Present corrective action recommendations to site leadership.

Review and work with site team members to maintain Job Safety Analyses and PPE Assessments and update shared folders and iConnect sites as needed.

Collaborate with environmental, health and safety regulatory agencies as needed.

Facilitate Safety Committee and Emergency Response Team meetings and activities.

Collaborate with engineering, maintenance and other groups as needed to implement EHS controls.

Use LEAN manufacturing methodology and LEAN tools (Kaizen events, process mapping, benchmarking, and root cause analysis) to drive workplace safety improvement. Promote the strong connection between PPI (Practical Process Improvement)/Lean initiatives and safety programs.

Participate in EHS audits as appropriate.

Keys to Success:EducationBachelor's degree (Master's preferred) from an accredited institution in safety, environmental or a related field preferred. High school diploma / equivalent required.Preferred Qualifications

Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training is strongly preferred.

Experience

3 year's EHS experience or demonstrated ability working in a manufacturing environment

Knowledge of EHS regulations and standards

Experience in implementing local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety procedures and regulations, including OSHA, EPA, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Strong attention to detail

Basic knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, ICAO, and other applicable regulations

Proven experience as an advocate of safety

Concise written and oral communication skills

Compensation and BenefitsThe salary range estimated for this position based in New York is $75,800.00–$101,000.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
