ResponsibilitiesJob Summary :The Medical Technologist Specialist is responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of results, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation, development of new procedures and instruments, writing/updating of procedure manuals, training of staff and inventory of supplies/reagents. He/She is also responsible for the performance of all the duties of a Medical Technologist II, as needed.Key Responsibilities:
Workup of new instruments/procedures; writing/updating of procedure manuals (10%).
Training of technologists, technicians, residents on new procedures/instruments (20%).
Maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments/procedures; documentation of essential information such as calibration data, calibration verification, reagent lots, etc. (15%).
Monitoring and ordering of reagents/supplies (5%).
Performing the duties of a Medical Technologist II, including participating in the weekend and holiday coverage on a rotational basis (40%).
Coordinates and monitors QC trends (5%).
Participates in activities supporting laboratory operations and research studies, including protocol and system validation and industry and regulatory audits. (5%).

Relationships/Authorities:
Technical Specialist reports to a Hematology-Chemistry Core Laboratory Supervisor.
Generally works independently, seeking guidance from laboratory Supervisors, Pathology Residents and/or Faculty.
Education/Experience:
Must have New York State License to Practice in the Clinical Laboratories
MS in Clinical Chemistry, or related science and at least 3 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
BS in Medical Technology and at least 6 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
BS degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology and at least 7 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
