Manager of Nursing Education - Full Time - Days Department: EDUCATION Job SummaryThe Manager of Nursing Education is an advanced role involving the management, assessment, planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of clinical and educational activities, including orientation, staff development and competency assessments. The Manager of Nursing Education will lead the general educational initiatives for MVHS. The role is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing educational programs and nursing orientation related to general clinical practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, coordinating affiliating Nursing School activities and promoting a culture of safety and excellence within the hospital. Additionally, this role oversees the Wound & Ostomy Nurses.Core Job Responsibilities

Develops and implements nursing educational programming for clinical staff in collaboration with Nursing Leadership. Conducts needs assessments via meetings, unit rounds, ad hoc training requests or QA findings. Revises programming content as needed.

Coordinates clinical orientation for new staff. Promotes the safest possible environment for all.

Acts as a trainer, facilitator, consultant, and supervisor to orientees.

Chairs policy workgroup meetings, coordinates review and assignments of nursing policies and presents policies to Nurse Executive Council for approval.

Administers/maintains Lippincott procedure site for MVHS approved documents.

Coordinates affiliation contracts between colleges for student clinical rotations in conjunction with MVHS Legal department. (SECON, Utica University (Utica & Syracuse ABSN), MVCC, Morrisville, BOCES-New Visions, SABA, Medical Assistants, etc.).

Coordinates student clinical schedules between various colleges/BOCES programs with nursing units.

Coordinates senior preceptor assignments for nursing clinical programs,

Organizes special programs and events including Annual Instructor Competency Day, Daisy Award Selection, Nurses week, Bring Your Child to Work day.

Manages budget for Education Department & Nursing department education programs.

Manages Educator/Instructor assignments for classroom education programs/orientation to include Traveler Orientation, New hire clinical orientation, AHA (BLS, ACLS, PALS), Nurse Residency program, Skills/Competency Blitz’s, Medicamp, RQI Program (Resuscitation Quality Improvement).

Manages assigned staff to include Wound & Ostomy Nurses, General Educators and Training Coordinator.

Oversees management of learning management system (NetLearning).

Uses technology and systems in all aspects of programming, delivery, record keeping and reporting. Keeps records of all classes including outlines, objectives, content, instruction method, evaluations, competency validation and attendance. Notifies nurse managers or leadership of non-compliance with mandatory requirements.

Chairs regular (monthly) meeting with all hospital educators.

Leads and collaborates in the development of general nursing competencies.

In partnership with leadership and Human Resources, makes decisions or recommendations related to performance management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, terminations, etc. Resolves staff issues and grievances in a fair, timely and consistent manner, also in partnership with HR.

Role models and promotes service excellence to patients, visitors and staff.

Serves as a clinical resource person for nursing staff. Promotes a culture of safety and continuous improvement by engaging with staff and addressing concerns related to education.

Stays current with developments in education methodologies and healthcare regulations.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience RequirementsREQUIRED:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Master of Science degree in Nursing or Education.

5+ years recent clinical experience in an acute care facility to include experience in clinical education.

Skilled in interpersonal, verbal and written communication, negotiation and conflict resolution.

Proficient with educational technology, EPIC and MS Office.

Is flexible to support all shifts when needed.

Licensure/Certification RequirementsREQUIRED:

Current RN license in New York State.

Current BLS certification.
