The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.Role DescriptionAs part of our Innovation Product team, you will play a key role in gathering business requirements, developing business cases for roadmap and early evaluation, scoping products, and writing functional specifications, user stories, and test plans. You will be a results-oriented individual comfortable operating in a creative, fast paced and often ambiguous environment. The successful candidate will operate with a level of autonomy commensurate with experience and ability to work effectively across multiple teams, products, and/or platforms.Role Objectives Collect user feedback and feature requests to support the product roadmap. Document business requirements, release notes, workflows, processes, training materials, and technical alternatives for specific epics or feature sets. Draft agile epics and user stories; maintain backlog with high-quality stories, acceptance criteria, and current priority. Join scrum ceremonies providing understanding of user stories to ensure accurate sizing and task breakdown to, maximizing team productivity. Partner with engineering, data science, and design teams to deliver roadmap commitments on-time, on-scope, on-quality. Demonstrate relationships with business, product, and technical unit leads to understand their business objectives and challenges to provide insight to areas that are candidates for enhancement. Partner with counterparts in IT systems and development to maintain knowledge of firm capabilities and capacity. Develop reports to deliver to senior management on the current state of business systems and whether they are meeting performance indicators.Drive timely delivery of initiatives through the following:

Collaboration and awareness of established target dates for business readiness

Ensure refinement of Epics and Stories are completed timely to meet sprint goals and release goals

Participate in technical desk checks (demos) with software developer and QA partners to iterate on requirements and acceptance criteria, leading to defect mitigation and efficiency of requirements delivery

Direct UAT partners on testing goals and timelines in accordance with release timelines

Be accountable for defect resolution through prioritization and defining criticality using analytic metrics and severity guidelines, ensuring timely resolution or risk acceptance while mitigating customer impact

Manage requirements associated to rollout approach of new capabilities

Qualifications and Skills

5-7+ years of business analyst or relevant experience

Expertise in business requirements writing and communication

Relevant experience in Financial Services industry or in a major global corporation (experience modernizing legacy banking systems, or implementing automation, innovation, fintech, regtech, or other similarly complex projects).

Understanding of how digital experiences, digital platforms, and underlying technologies are developed and built

Experience with agile product development and software delivery lifecycle

Familiarity with processes, ceremonies, and best practices of iterative development processes, such as Agile methodologies and Scrum

Ability to define user stories from high level features, and facilitate them through design and development iterative processes

Proven track record of delivery and new product feature creation

Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify insights to help drive business performance and shape strategy

Familiarity/experience with portfolio / performance reporting is preferred

Understanding of how to build the right features through the lens of customer desirability, business viability, and technology feasibility

An agile methodology mindset

Demonstrated ability to manage tight delivery timelines and calmness under pressure

BA or BS in applicable field of study
