Summary Description:

The Medical Assistant (MA) works closely with the Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant (PA) and a team of Interventional Radiologists (IR) to ensure the delivery and follow up of high-quality patient care and outreach. The MA duties include but are not limited to acting as the liaison between patients and providers, post procedure follow up and tracking, safety, best practices, and delivering the best quality of care for each of our patients. Assisting with exams and procedures, administering medications and obtaining prior authorizations as needed.

Essential Functions:

General

Reports to work as scheduled and on time per policy with predictable regular attendance. Time away from work is approved and taken in accordance with established policies.

Takes all reasonable steps to maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information, ensuring compliance with HIPAA mandates.

Demonstrates positive interpersonal communications in dealing with all others. Recognizes and respects differences in the work place. Demonstrates openness, sensitivity and commitment to the coworkers, patients, family members, and any other visitors to MRG.

Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety and infection control into daily activities. Maintains current knowledge of disaster policies and participates appropriately in disaster drills. Expresses and applies principles of body mechanics to prevent injury and accidents.

Displays consistent commitment to customer service and team work. Displays personal behavior that has a positive impact for the team.

Demonstrates personal commitment to staying current in field of knowledge, expanding knowledge and skill, and contributing to organizational success.

Attends staff meetings, completes education program as requested or approved by MRG.

ÂJob Specific

Manages clinical communications between patients, clinical staff, providers and internal/external customers to optimize flow and coordination of patient care.

Facilitates getting immediate resolution for urgent or emergent patient issues by communicating efficiently and professionally with IR PA's, IR's and referring providers to ensure the best patient outcomes.

Conducts patient treatment preparation including but not limited to EMR chart preparation, obtaining test results, requesting tests and/or medical records and obtaining prior authorizations for insurance payors.

Prepares treatment areas and equipment including but not limited to ordering and maintaining medical supplies, sanitizing beds and equipment and organizing equipment needed for procedure.

Performs treatment follow-up including but not limited to room clean-up and sanitation of equipment, order needed tests/imaging, updating the patient EMR and tracking spreadsheets for any needed follow-up.

Makes post-procedure telephone calls to patients to review discharge instructions, discuss pain, discomfort and recommend heat/ice/medications.

Navigates Epic EMR in multiple locations (in an inpatient and outpatient setting) to research and record pertinent patient information.

Assists IR PA's and IR's in procedures as needed.

Maintains clinical tracking systems (spreadsheets) and makes followup calls

Maintains the Discharge Instructions

Maintains treatment stations and examination areas in a manner consistent with OSHA standards and Universal Precautions procedures.

Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations and ensuring performance is within the Oregon Medical Board Scope of Practice for CMA.

Performs any additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program

Certification through a nationally recognized Medical Assistant program such as AAMA, AMT, CMA, RMA or NCCT

Current Basic Life Support (BLS)

Experience

Minimum 2 year's recent healthcare experience working as a Medical Assistant using Epic EMR

Understand compliance of HIPAA, confidentiality and risk management on the state and federal

Knowledge of insurance prior-authorization process

Basic computer skills including Microsoft Windows and Office and medical information systems

Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds

Able to follow detailed procedures and directions

Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions

Frequent exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
