Mission Critical is an international practice for Burns & McDonnell involving exciting, collaborative work across many departments.The Staff Building Automation Engineer will participate on both multi-disciplinary and controls-specific engineering teams to develop and review Building Automation Engineering design packages, perform calculations and develop engineering solutions in support of capital and retrofit projects in a variety of locations. Work duties can consist of any of the following depending on client, project, and consultant role:

Assists in development of design drawings and specifications for design of primarily HVAC control systems and EPMS, for both PLC-based systems and DDC-based systems (System is client-specific)

Coordinate with mechanical and electrical design teams to develop Sequences of Operations and Point Lists for HVAC control and electrical monitoring of equipment and systems

Create engineering drawings for control panel and field wiring designs including installation details, bill of material, and P&IDs

Manage quality reviews of project submittals.

Evaluate technical bids and managing vendor and subconsultant contracts

Review and approving of vendor and subconsultant drawings, including Sequences of Operation, Points Lists, Engineering Drawings, Bill of Materials, Graphics, and Test Scripts

Participate in Software Bench Tests, Software Factory Acceptance Tests, and Equipment Factory Witness Tests

Provide technical assistance during commissioning at project site.

Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

Facilitate multi-consultant and Owner meetings for design changes and implementation

Lead production of engineering drawings using Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD Electrical, or ePlan

Supports RFI responses and associated work plans

Ensures adherence to client and industry standards and applies client or industry standards, guidelines, specifications, practices and procedures in preparing designs.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. and 3 years of applicable engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required or

Master Degree in above Engineering programs or related and 2 years of applicable engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required

Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

Minimum 2 years of either Building Automation System (BAS) or mechanical HVAC engineering experience preferred

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

Proficient in Smart Plant instrumentation (SPI) in the development of instrument datasheets

Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)

Revit experience preferred

Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).

Engineers in Training-EIT Certification Preferred
