Fleet Technical Automation and Electrical Superintendent

Provides technical/engineering support for Chevron Marine's vessels to ensure their safety, reliability, operability and efficiency. Manages marine vessel design and construction projects. Oversees major turn-around and overhaul projects. Assesses and reports on a vessel’s overall condition, shipboard systems performance, operational readiness, and functional integrity. Approves changes to marine engineering systems and operational practices and coordinates vessels maintenance. Leads projects of medium scope and complexity. Work often impacts across work groups or at the BU level. Detailed knowledge of the work function and general knowledge of related work functions.Job DescriptionChevron is accepting online applications for the position of Automation and Electrical Superintendent through March 4th , 2023 at 11:59 PM. (CST). The Automation and Electrical Superintendent role reports into Chevron Shipping Fleet Technical organization based in San Ramon, California USA. This role will be specifically based in Houston, Texas working alongside Shipping Oil and LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) Operation Team, Fleet Technical, HSE, and our Commercial team.The primary scope for this role is to directly support daily technical operations of nine (9) LNG (liquified natural gas) carrier vessels and twenty (20) Oil vessels focusing on technical aspect of safety, reliability, lifecycle management, and cost-effective operations. This role reports to the Chevron Shipping Fleet Technical Electrical Manager.Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

Provide Marine Systems Technical Expertise by taking ownership of active fleet electrical projects and providing day-to-day troubleshooting and repair advice to Vessel Staff and Engineering Superintendents.

Attend vessel new construction facilities, contribute expertise onsite at periodic shipyard drydocking, join vessels as sea and performing voyage repairs and advisement onboard. Candidate shall have physical ability to work on ships proven by passing required maritime Functional Capability Assessment (FCE).

SME (subject matter expert) for Marine Electrical Systems. Provide automation and electrical support to related internal teams of Fleet Technical, Reliability, Asset Management, Shipyard/Overhaul and OE/HES with object of maintaining and improving vessel reliability, operational efficiency, cost effectiveness and safety of assets.

Provide Leadership by leading contractors, or technical team of engineers to execute onsite repairs to vessels. Take initiative to identify opportunities for improvement. Work with vessel onboard team of Chief Engineers, Gas Engineers, Deck/Engine Officers, and Electrical Officers to effectively resolve and provide direction in resolving technical issues.

Share Knowledge and Implement Lifecycle Management. Support, develop and implementation of lifecycle asset management programs for marine electrical equipment. Continuously grow capabilities and those in the fleet by sharing information and seeking training and development opportunities.

Communication and Cooperation: Improve team effectiveness by building collaborative relationships internally across CSC (Chevron Shipping Company) organizations including Vessel VMT and Officers, Fleet Technical, AEO (Automation Electrical Officer) Supt and Engineering Supt and externally in maritime industry.

Perform New Construction guidance on Electrical Systems specification, design, construction & commissioning.

Familiar with bridge equipment and provide level 1 troubleshooting of common issues that could cause failure or malfunction of the equipment. Bridge equipment include but not limited to: Sat-C, VSAT/FB, Radar, ECDIS, Gyroscopes, AIS, Autopilots, Echo Sounder, BNWAS, Steering Gear, GPS, Anemometer etc.

Familiar with Computerize Maintenance Management Systems and ability to evolve our Planned Maintenance System Philosophy & Practice.

Support Digitization Technology Evolution Efforts by having knowledge and experience with advanced Industrial Automation, Control, Computer, Data, Networking & Cybersecurity.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma

Engineering Degree or Equivalent Trade Training & Experience

Familiar with Electrical & Maritime Standards and Regulation

Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of experience in Technical Electrical Field - Marine Industry and Operational Experience a plus.

Experience in LNG carrier and diesel electric propulsion systems

Previous experience working as a field project team leader.

Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Exceptional teamwork and customer focus.

Ability to work independently or with diverse teams.

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
