Measurement Gas Quality Engineer Job ID #: 29001 Location: TX-HOUSTON Functional Area: Engineering Position Type: Full Time Experience Required: More than 10 years Relocation Provided: No Education Required: Associates Degree RC/Department: 0172 -ENG SVCES METROLOGY :KMI Position Description Responsible for coordinating and supporting gas quality advisement for the Kinder Morgan Pipeline System. This will include helping ensure accurate Measurement and custody quality gas by monitoring gas composition for tariff violations, determining when blending out of specification gas is possible, curtailing gas is necessary, or a shut in is needed. This will also include facilitating tariff waiver/exemption requests and working with customers on Corrective Action Plans. Employee will make use of measurement systems and tools (PGQ, VMA, SCADA) in performing activities. The position requires close interaction with other members of the Gas Quality Team and other internal departments including Scheduling, Corrosion, Engineering, Legal, Regulatory, Gas Control, Field Operations management and technicians, Business Development, and Commercial. Employee will also be required to interact with internal and external customers in resolving gas quality events and tariff enforcement activities.Additional activities include:
Daily review and resolution of gas quality events
Review current Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) analysis dataproducer performance and evaluate new sources of RNGprocessing and analytical methods.
Troubleshoot and resolve Measurement/Customer related problems
Lead and/or support special Measurement related projects
Develop and maintain best practices and procedures
Preparation and review of gas quality EBB postings and waivers
Support Field Operations in enforcing and revising tariff specs
Assist with developing gas quality policy to support long and short term needs of Kinder Morgan
Provide technical advice to Field Operations, Project Management, and Engineering Design concerning gas quality monitoring and equipment
Data analysis activities in support of gas quality management
Support of industry gas quality initiatives
Review and approval of gas quality for new interconnects, including recommendations for gas quality monitoring equipment
Evaluation of new gas quality equipment
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to company and its insurer
Position Requirements
An Engineering degree, Chemical or Petroleum preferred, from an accredited institution. Candidates with extensive experience (10+ years) and knowledge of the Measurement discipline may be considered without an Engineering degree. Candidates with an Associate’s degree in a related technical subject such as I&E or related military technical training plus 4 years’ experience in the Measurement discipline will also be considered.
Experience with RNG (biogasbio-methane), sources (landfills, agricultural waste, water treatment plants), constituents of concern, analytical methods.
Knowledge of natural gas measurement, gas processing, gas quality and metering, natural gas operations, and measurement systems is preferred.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, interpersonal skills, analytical skills and the ability to analyze a problem from various perspectives and make sound recommendations are required.
The individual must be self-motivated and willing to learn new and changing technologies.
Individual must possess drive for self-directed work activity and be able to maintain a close working relationship with team members.
A technical understanding of the Measurement discipline, SCADA, network communications, and data systems are a plus.
Proficient computer skills are required.
Approximately 10-20% travel is required. Travel requirements include meeting with customers, presentations at various meetings, Technician training, developmental training, internal meetings, and industry events.
Job level commensurate with experience and skillset.
