The purpose of the Registered Nurse (RN) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) position is to provide comprehensive health services to DOS, DOD, and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. The ICU Nurse is a highly trained RN who treats patients with life-threatening illnesses or conditions with critical interventions and complex care planning. The ICU Nurse assumes responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect care to patients. The ICU RN will competently function as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient centred care.   The ICU RN serves as an advocate for the patient and their family and intercedes by acting as a liaison concerning patient rights and beliefs. The ICU Registered Nurses will utilize their expertise in evidenced-based medical practice to manage unexpected and emergent situations mitigating and treating a variety of injuries and illnesses promptly and professionally.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform comprehensive assessments of critically ill patients and continuous vital signs monitoring. Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and other treatments as prescribed by the physician. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans. Utilize advanced equipment and technology to support patient care, including ventilators, cardiac monitors, and infusion pumps. Document patient care accurately in electronic health records (EHRs) and maintain up-to-date records of patient progress. Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families regarding treatment plans and recovery processes.
