JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESGeneral Laboratory Function Maintains a detailed laboratory notebook and records Assembles results for review and discussion Participates in regular planning meetings Communicates progress and updates on a daily basis Assists in general laboratory maintenance, including restocking, organizing and monitoring supply levelsLaboratory Technical Function [Job Specific 1 Description] Maintains cancer cell lines and immune cell cultures using sterile technique. Performs basic molecular assays involving DNA, RNA and protein, such as PCR, qPCR, CRISPR, immunostaining and western blot Performs basic functional cell assays such as proliferation, migration and drug response assays Performs basic laboratory calculations and analysis, including concentration/dilution and calibration curve calculationsMouse Colony Maintenance Assists in mouse handling, separation and weaning Assists in mouse genotyping Assists in mouse surgical procedures and sample collectionOther duties as assignedBachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.   • At Houston Methodist, the Research Assistant III position is responsible for providing senior level of research support that may include scientific writing and data analysis. Work could be performed in either a laboratory or office environment. Under minimal supervision, the Research Assistant III will perform a wide variety of complex tasks requiring practical understanding of scientific techniques and advanced knowledge of scientific theory. This position is expected to assist scientists, both independently and collaboratively, with investigative procedures. The Research Assistant III performs various assays, imaging experiments and other technical duties to assist with laboratory and/or department research activities and may be required to work with animal models and/or human subjects.
