Summary About the Position: Serves as a subject matter expert of chemical agent laboratory and environmental protection and technical inspector for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear operations, environmental protection, personnel reliability and suitability, safety, security, emergency response, management, and doctrine within the Department of the Army Inspector General's (DAIG) Technical Inspection Division. Responsibilities Visit, inspect, and investigate personnel certifications for DOD and Army Reliability and Suitability Programs. Measure compliance with Army and Federal guidelines while staying abreast of emerging technical issues, risks, policy changes, and organizational challenges. Apply existing policy of technical aspects. Propose new policies, guidelines, and regulations where existing technical criteria is incomplete or does not provide the needed protections in order to minimize risk to the DOD, the Army, and employees. Assess and report on the adequacy of acquisition, integrated logistics support, and other external support programs for personnel reliability and suitability programs. Advise The Inspector General and senior leaders of systemic faults and complex operational deficiencies. Provide fiscally responsible and technically achievable recommendations designed to mitigate risk and promote efficiency and economy of technical operations Army-wide. Lead, coordinate, and conduct focused compliance and investigations related to Army chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear programs with a high level of technical expertise. Lead efforts to minimize risk during chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear operations to prevent incidents or accidents at DOD laboratories and facilities. Conduct announced and unannounced on-site chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and other technical inspections. Brief technical inspection and investigation findings to site commanders/directors and senior leaders. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes ensuring compliance with federal regulations and policies; briefing senior leaders on investigation reports; conducting technical inspections such as chemical, biological and/or nuclear operations; and recommending policy changes based on observations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Problem Solving Technical Competence Technical Credibility Writing Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
