Verifies patient and specimen identification before performing any procedure.

Operates and maintains laboratory instruments and equipment.

Maintains sufficient inventory of supplies and takes steps to reduce waste.

Performs venipuncture or capillary collections according to procedure, including age-specific criteria.

Responsible for tracking daily quality controls for CLIA certification.

Responsible for charting accurate results in patient electronic medical records.

Responsible for reconciling laboratory testing results from third-party labs.

Responsible for timely reporting of critical lab values to providers.

Assist nurses by rooming patients during busy times.

Minimum Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Required Skills:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including week-ends and holidays to insure continuity and appropriateness of laboratory coverage to the patients of Sovah Health Danville on all units.

Minimum Work Experience:

One year experience in phlebotomy and specimen processing as a medical assistant preferred.
