Review the position below and apply today.At this time, Dominion Energy cannot transfer or sponsor a work visa or employment authorization for this position.Job SummaryWe are currently seeking a full-time co-op student for the Summer 2025 (with subsequent co-op sessions in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026) in the Corporate Nuclear Engineering and Fuel Department's Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) group located at Dominion Energy's Innsbrook Technical Center in Glen Allen, VA. This will be a three term co-op based upon performance.Position Overview:The Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) group has responsibility for developing, maintaining, and applying PRA models to support the Dominion nuclear plants in Virginia, Connecticut, and South Carolina. PRA models are used to evaluate plant response for an event at a nuclear power station and they account for the design of plant systems and the responses of plant operators. The models are used to evaluate the importance of systems and components to plant risk. Risk insights are used to improve safety and efficiency of plant operations and maintenance.A co-op in PRA would assist the engineers in various activities related to the development, maintenance, and application of PRA models.Position Success Factors:The most qualified candidate may have had some exposure to probabilistic risk assessment concepts and a strong background in mathematics and statistics. The most qualified candidate would demonstrate a strong ability to rapidly grasp new technical concepts and work either independently or as a group to meet challenging goals. The most qualified candidate would demonstrate an ability to collaborate effectively with a team and would demonstrate strong communication skills. The most qualified candidate would demonstrate an ability to learn detailed plant systems and PRA modeling methods.Job Responsibilities:
Support PRA engineers in activities related to PRA model development, maintenance, and application.
Participate in plant walkdowns as-needed to support model development.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Professional orientation and effective interpersonal skills; effective communication skills in both written and oral forms; ability to work in teams or independently under own initiative.
Ability to rapidly learn new concepts and maintain cognizance and control of multiple project tasks.
Knowledge of fundamental nuclear, mechanical, and electrical theory.
Problem-solving skills, including demonstrated ability to define problems, collect information, evaluate data, draw valid conclusions, and develop solutions.
Ability to effectively operate a personal computer and standard Microsoft applications. Programming skills in languages such as FORTRAN or Visual Basic, or database programs such as Microsoft Access, is a plus.
Previous exposure in probabilistic risk assessment concepts preferred.
Education Requirements
Working toward a four-year Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university.
Sophomore or Junior standing.
GPA of 3.0 or higher.
