Review the position below and apply today.We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.Military service members and veterans with a rank of E-5 or higher plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.Job SummaryThe Electric Transmission System Protection Engineering (SPE) department ensures power system security and reliability through consistent application of protective relay settings and data communication networks in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.SPE is looking for a leader to supervise the Generation Interconnection Data Communications Engineering team. This team develops settings for communications devices that provide data for the monitoring and operation of the power grid. It is primarily staffed by Electrical and Computer Engineers familiar with computer-based system control and data acquisition devices.Responsibilities include:
Supervise company and contract engineering resources that perform data communications engineering.
Lead a team of engineers responsible for handling all data communication between power plants, substations, and control centers.
Assign work activities such as engineering calculations, construction and material specifications, and digital device programming and ensure their accuracy and timely completion.
Lead the initiative to coordinate and prioritize change request and engineering project needs.
Support coordination study requests for generation interconnects.
Maintain and enforce Interconnection Communication Requirements.
Lead the shift from current system protection practice using hard-wired systems to IEEE-61850-compliant virtual network microprocessor systems.
Assist with cellular communication schemes.
Document and fulfill all NERC compliance requirements that apply to team projects.
Provide training, coaching, feedback, and career development to team members.
Communicate with upper management on design status, team needs, and special projects.
Support Power Generation, Compliance departments and/or regulatory agencies as needed.
Coordinate team deliverables with all customers including project execution, field resources, and operations.
Other tasks as assigned by management
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
This position requires 7+ years of any combination of engineering experience, project management experience, or titled leadership experience.
Proven leadership and coaching skills.
Strong conflict resolution skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead large complex projects or previous titled leadership experience.
Domain knowledge of substation and/or generation practices and methods.
Knowledge or experience in project management is strongly preferred.
In-depth knowledge of engineering theories and principles.
Strong abstract problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically including technical presentations and procedure documentation.
Knowledge of business/financial and contractual matters.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
Demonstrated ability to interpret codes, regulations, and practices.
Education RequirementsDegree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
