Harbor Dredge & Dock is a full service general contractor specializing in civil, marine and dredging projects for government, commercial, and private sectors. The owners, have over 30 plus years’ experience in civil construction, heavy utility contractor, hydraulic dredging, mechanical dredging, pile driving, retaining walls, timber construction, shoreline development, living shorelines and stream water restoration. Harbor Dredge & Dock has experience dredging and construction for tidal waterways, lakes, rivers, streams and canals. Our portable equipment allows us to service a wide variety of applications in the Mid Atlantic area. We are a Women Owned Small Business firm registered with Federal and local governments.
Our Civil division is currently looking to add an experienced Pipe Layer to join our team. We are looking to speak with candidates that have the following skill sets;
Basic math skills
OSHA Trench Safety
Regulations and guidelines
Safe lifting,Hoisting,and rigging procedures
Pipe laying techniques
Safe operating techniques of equipment
Instrumentation and warning devices of the equipment being operated
Meaning of grade stakes
Ability to lift 40lbs properly, multiple times during each shift
40+ hours per week, 9+ hours per day typical,
Attend and participate in all training classes required by Harbor Dredge & Dock
Provide own transportation to project site.
Responsibilities:
Perform duties as directed by the project foreman
Read and understand grade stakes
Setup instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels
Work with excavator personnel during installation process of laying pipe on line and grade
Check that slopes and grades conform to requirements, using levels or lasers
Ensure trench is excavated to the proper depth/grade
Grade and level trench bottoms, using hand tools
Measure and cut pipe to required length
Assemble pipe and pipe accessories as per specification
Be aware of changes in soil condition and materials that impact operations
Be aware of proper rigging of pipe, manhole barrels, etc. and ensure safe work procedures are followed during lowering of materials into the excavation
Operate in a safe, efficient, and productive manner
Follow OSHA Trench Safety guidelines and regulations
Take direction from pipe equipment operator on occasion
Work harmoniously with other crew members
Train Pipe-Layer/Laborer 2 on grading and pipe laying techniques
Recognize and report any abnormal equipment operating conditions
Recognize and report any unsafe working conditions
Job Requirements
Assembling heavy construction pipe systems
Construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel
Operate mechanized equipment such as pickup trucks, rollers, tandem dump trucks, front-end loaders, and backhoes
Carry and hold building materials, tools and supplies
Prepare for welding or sealing
Directing the operator where to dig at to avoid preexisting utility lines
Setting Stringline, stringing pipe, grouting Manholes, and tarring products
Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels
Multitask and work as a team member
Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment
Laying storm, water, and sewer pipes for different projects that the company has
Perform all work safely and follows company policies and procedures at all times
Work various schedules and stay late when necessary with little or no notice
Force main, air, gas, water
Performing and recording QA tests & measurements on a wide variety of equipment
Pull out defective or misaligned pipes
Enter trenches and/or confined spaces after receiving proper training
Setting rock, lining up the pipe
Shoot grade and be familiar with appropriate lasers and measurements
Dig up existing ground pipes with shovel
