Description:GENERAL MECHANIC: pay up to $30A General Mechanic position require a complete understanding of the principles and methods ofmechanical, hydraulic, electrical troubleshooting and overhaul repair of diesel and electricalequipment with strong analytical and problem solving skills.General Mechanics must have the ability to repair or overhaul major assemblies and systems, e.g.power train differentials, transaxles, electronic fuel injections systems, emission control systems,and related electrical, electronic, hydraulic, fuel, and other sub-assemblies following instructionscontained in applicable technical manuals.A general mechanic must have at least (5) years’ experience as a mechanic on the repair andoverhaul of shipboard MHE and SMSE.JUNIOR MECHANIC: pay up to $25A Junior Mechanic position require an understanding of the general principles and methods ofmechanical, hydraulic, electrical and overhaul repair of diesel and electrical equipment.Junior Mechanics must meet the standards (including labor hours) of the work package andmaintain close contact with a General Mechanic or General Foreman. Junior mechanics work areinspected throughout the overhaul process before allowed to continue working on higherassemblies.Junior mechanics cannot be a mobile service mechanic as the work requires individual criticalthinking and judgement calls at customer sites working independently without any supervision.A Junior mechanic must have diesel engine repair, suspension and steering, transmissions,transaxles, brakes, electrical/electronic systems (motors and contactors etc.) and overallmaintenance techniques experience.A Junior mechanic must have at least (2) years’ work related experience and at a minimum a nonexpiredASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification.NOTE: general, junior mechanics must possess and adhere to the following: Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and follow verbal and writtencommands. Must have the basic industry standard metric and non-metric tools to perform all aspects ofthe workload for every type of MHE/SMSE within the fleet. Possess a variety of test equipment that includes (but is not limited to) engine analyzers,dynamometers, injector tests, voltmeters, gauges, micrometers, calipers and dial indicators. Must have the ability to interpret blue prints, wiring diagrams and control schematics. Must have the ability to read technical manuals and order proper parts. Must have the ability to troubleshoot MHE/SMSE and isolate the problem and repair ifneeded without ordering parts if not needed. If parts are needed, have the ability to identifythe correct part(s) that require replacement initially. May be required to perform additional duties such as structural firefighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
