Job Title: Construction InspectorJob DescriptionWe are hiring Material Technicians and Soil Inspectors to support the HRBT Expansion Project. The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion is the largest highway construction project in Virginia's history. This transformative undertaking will widen the current four-lane segments along nearly ten miles of the I-64 corridor in Norfolk and Hampton, with new twin tunnels across the harbor. The expansion will increase capacity, ease major congestion, and enhance travel time reliability. Including the construction contract and owner’s costs, the project’s total budget is over $3.9 billion, making it one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country. Perform quality control of VDOT Roadway and construction for field soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate testing.

Perform materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density.

Review placement of and perform materials tests on concrete deliveries in accordance with VDOT and ACI standards.

Verify construction of Roadway and Hwy materials and placement to be in compliance with drawings, VDOT specifications and standards, special provisions, and contract documents.

Monitor and observe limited contractual fieldwork, including excavations, storm drain piping installation, drainage facilities, concrete placement, soil and aggregate placement, road surfaces, pile driving under supervision.

Take field measurements of materials placed/tested and record daily production and test results.

Complete daily report with attached VDOT materials testing forms.

Receive materials delivery tickets for compliance and submission to contractor.

Soft Skills/Qualifications

ACI or VDOT soil and aggregate certification

Accurately record and report daily forms per project requirements.

Communicate effectively with client, contractor, and staff to resolve problems at the lowest level.

Adhere to project scope, schedule, and budget.

Review all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting.

Submit accurate time sheets, mileage, and expense reports on time each week.

Review jobsite safety daily and take immediate action to document and follow OSHA Safety Standards and corporate policies.

Maintain all required certifications and participate in training courses as required.

Understand all applicable industry standards for the project and perform all tasks per standards and client requirements.
