Who We Are

Second Cycle is a 501(c)(3) community cycle center which supports, educates, and advocates for cyclists, new and experienced, in the Hilltop and surrounding Tacoma community. Our vision is a world where the joy of bike riding is accessible to everybody. Our mission is to demystify and normalize bike riding as a part of daily life and realize the bicycle as a personal and community empowerment tool. We provide equitable access to sustainable transportation to all people through our recycling efforts, full-service bike shop, and various programs for adults and youth.

Position Summary

The Programs/Recycle coordinator works directly with the programs manager and Program Director to facilitate programs offered at Second Cycle. This role includes teaching bike repair classes, running bicycle safety courses/rodeos, community outreach and program promotion/advertisement. The program coordinator should be invested in empowering young/adult people by providing access to the joy of riding a bike through various program offerings. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience working with youth/adults and a love for bicycles.

Reports to: Program Director/Program Manager

Classification: Full-time non-exempt up to 40 hours a week, plus benefits

Essential Job Functions: 60% Programming 40% Recycling and reuse center

Program: We offer a variety of youth and adult programs. The program coordinator will act as the teacher of these various programs. Working with youth and adults.

Will work as part of a team and individual contributor. Directly teaching and delivering programming Including: Safe Cycle, earn a bike classes, summer camps, diversion classes, Major Taylor Project, Open Shop, bike rides, and community partnerships.

Updates registrations, class documents, and calendars as needed.

Maintains classroom environments; clean organizes, and restocks spaces as needed.

Assist in implementing Open Shop and other programs assigned by the program manager.

Recycle and Reuse Center: This center is where we source bikes and parts for program and the shop. We have many tasks for donated bikes and parts in the recycling and reuse center.

Organize donation procurement efforts

Process donated bike and parts, turning them into usable bikes for various functions of the shop.

Manage volunteers an interns as they assist in the recycling and reuse center.

Build used bikes for sale

Refine systems to organize donations

Support the team in making used bike sales goals

Qualifications/qualities/requirements

Value bicycles as a tool of change and empowerment

Are an educator at heart and have the want to teach and share the joy of bikes with all

Knowledge of bike mechanics - preferred but not required

Experienced bike rider - from bike touring, riding across town, racing, everything counts

Understanding of social justice and awareness of privilege

Ability to self-organize and complete tasks consistently and accurately

Clear communicator and engaged active listener

Ability to teach in an engaging and challenging manner - or a want to do so

A growth mindset - a want to continuously improve

Experience or training in positive youth development

Compensation

Hourly $17 - $22 DOE.
