Project Engineer

The East Columbia Basin Irrigation District (District) is currently accepting applications for Staff Engineers and Project Engineers.

As the largest irrigation District in Washington State, the District has authorization to deliver Columbia Basin Project (CBP) water to 472,000 acres. Currently the District delivers to approximately 170,000 acres. District headquarters are located in Othello, WA. Othello provides a small-city environment, while the larger City of Moses Lake is less than a half hour away. The Tri-cities are a 45-minute drive to the south. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound throughout the surrounding areas. World-class fishing and watersports activities are found within the CBP at its numerous lakes and reservoirs. A popular stop on the Pacific Flyway, the area offers many waterfowl hunting opportunities, as well as big game. Residents enjoy a sunny climate with four seasons.

Engineers at the District have an opportunity to work on a vast range of projects. Our engineers are encouraged to take on projects from planning through implementation in collaboration with other departments. The CBP irrigation facilities create the backbone of the economy of the region. The critical work that is accomplished by District employees in our rural setting is crucial to maintaining water deliveries to landowners, as well as building infrastructure to increase the supply of irrigation water to relieve the pressure on a declining aquifer.

Working under the direction of the District Engineer and the Assistant Manager for Technical Services, engineers provide support for operations, maintenance, and development activities for irrigation and drainage facilities, pump plants, District properties, buildings, and equipment. Duties include planning, design, inspection, cost estimating, tracking, coordination, scheduling, and construction management for pipelines, canal/drain maintenance and modernization, delivery structures, pump plants and appurtenant facilities and equipment. Engineers support District functions by assisting with engineering, project management, inspection, and construction surveying. Engineers at the District are encouraged to think creatively and independently to solve a wide range of technical problems.

The Staff Engineer must possess a bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering discipline. 1-5 years of experience. EIT is required or obtained within the 9-month probation. The salary range is $68,000 – $80,000 + benefits.

The Project Engineer must possess a bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering discipline with 5 or more years of experience. EIT is required or obtained within the 9-month probation period, PE highly desirable. The salary range is75,000-$110,000 + benefits.

Most of the District’s engineering needs may be met by engineers from the following disciplines: civil, mechanical, or agricultural. Individuals licensed as professional engineers are highly encouraged to apply.
