Acting professionally within the school is reflected by being consistent with these values.The Teaching and Learning Innovation Team (TALI) team strives to provide students with the support they need to be successful throughout their time at the Evans School and beyond. The TALI team encompasses Undergraduate Programming, Professional Learning, & International Program in Public Health Leadership (IPPHL).Key Programs

Undergraduate Programs that create a pathway to public service in leadership in Evans includeNextGen Civic Leader Corps (NextGen), Junior Summer Program (JSI), Public Policy Camp program, Minor in Public Policy and possibly Major in Public Service & Policy major.NextGen Civic Leader Corps (NextGen): The Evans School Public Policy & Governance in partnership with the Community Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) Center within Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UAA) launched the NextGen Network in 2021 with a goal of developing diverse undergraduate students who are socially engaged and community-rooted public service leaders. NextGen participants engage in multi-year programs, including public policy and leadership coursework, network-building opportunities, skill development workshops, and internships in government and/or non-profit organizations. Through core academic programming, experiential learning, and impactful networking opportunities with public service practitioners, the NextGen network aims to empower the next generation of leaders in public service.

The University of Washington is one of nineteen schools participating in a national initiative of the Volcker Alliance and Arizona State University’s Watts College that seeks to elevate and expand public service-learning experiences for undergraduates.

The student engagement coordinator will support efforts to broaden and deepen student engagement in the NextGen Civic Leader Corps. The NextGen network aims to engage a broad cross-section of incoming and continuing UW undergraduate students throughout their undergraduate experience.Junior Summer Institute (JSI):

JSI is a rigorous seven-week program designed to address the lack of diversity across the spectrum of professional public services, including government, non-profit, and public policy institutions. The program aims to prepare students from historically and socially marginalized backgrounds to obtain a master’s degree in public policy, public affairs, or related fields. JSI scholars take graduate level courses like Economics, Statistics, Policy Analysis & Evaluation, Leadership & Community Engagement, as well as explore contemporary social policy issues and work with a group to delve more deeply into these policies to practice implementing the skills and knowledge of the JSI under the guidance of experienced advisor. The student engagement coordinator will support the operations of the JSI program.Public Policy Camp:

The Public Policy Camp is an initiative to introduce the field of public policy to undergraduate students who might not otherwise be familiar with it, as well as increase the pathways of diverse students into the Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management (APPAM) member institutions of which Evans School is a proud member. In partnership with APPAM, the Evans school hosts a public policy camp in Spring term. The student engagement coordinator will support the planning and execution of this event starting in Spring 2025.Public Policy Undergraduate Programs

The Public Policy Minor can be added by any UW undergraduate who is declared a major and serves as a relevant and exciting introduction to the field and the frameworks leaders use to address public challenges. The Evans School looks forward to expanding our undergraduate academic program options to introduce more undergraduate students to the exciting Evans School curriculum in public service and policy.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Student Engagement- (50% FTE)

Act as a project manager to lead the ideation, development, promotion, delivery and reporting of student engagement content, programming and events aimed at civic and community engagement experiences.

Design and implement programming across the academic year to support and deepen student engagement in pathway to public service in leadership opportunities

Lead the planning and implementation of UW undergraduate student traditions and practices, like Dawg Daze, Admitted Students Day, and other campus-wide events designed to engage undergraduates in public service leadership.

Provide leadership and oversight to NextGen team development and other student leadership pathway programs

Support the planning and implementation of off-campus events with local and regional partnerships that enable & deepen student civic and public engagement opportunities

Collaborate with public leadership pathway students, faculty, and staff through consistent communication, engagement, and support to ensure effective and seamless partnership.

Develop and maintain relationships with university and community partners to coordinate and support program-wide student engagement initiatives and peer-led programming. In particular, collaborate and partner closely with the Civic Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) Center staff to create programming opportunities for students

Maintain an understanding of student services and student programs that enhance the academic, wellness and well-being, social development of students.

Co-develop systems to organize and communicate student opportunities and track engagement.

Review, revise, create, and update relevant documents, policies, practices, and program operations.

Develop and document programming calendar and communication flow

Engage partners and students in regular assessment and annual program improvement processStudent Engagement Advising (40% FTE)

Serve as primary contact for prospective students, current students, and alumni for undergraduate co-curricular programs.

Engage in proactive advising to support and challenge students to achieve public service and leadership goals

Understand the unique experiences of underrepresented, first-generation, BIPOC, and marginalized populations to better support student engagement and success.

Collaborate with faculty, instructors, and staff around advising, career development, and student engagement and success activities.

Cross train with other members of TALI and Student Affairs to serve as a backup for student services and for appropriate student referral to additional resources.

Participate in opportunities to recognize and celebrate the success of student leaders.

Challenge and empower student leaders through mentoring relationships.

Operate from an equity lens in prioritizing work

Support the needs of students without taking away their autonomy and decision-making abilitiesCulture and Community: (10% FTE)

Join weekly Teaching and Learning Innovation (TALI) team regular meetings, Quarterly Evans all staff meetings, and committees as needed.

Collaborate with the Evans School Student Services team Evans Marketing & Communications (MarCom) team, Undergraduate Initiatives Workgroup, and other Evans program staff to align activities with and integrate the NextGen program into strategic plans for the school.

Participate in a national network of NextGen Public Service Programs through the Volcker Alliance

Participate in the Tri-Campus NextGen Community of Practice (CoP) meetings

Participate in bi-weekly CELE Center staff meetings and other Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UAA) meetings and committees as needed

Play a key role in developing and maintaining an internal organizational culture consistent with CELE Center values and strategic priorities; serve as a thought partner and key collaborator with CELE programs

Participate on community partner committees related to the scope of the position's responsibilities

Other related duties as assignedSupervision

This position reports to the Undergraduate Program Manager on the TALI team.

This position does not currently supervise anyone but is anticipated to supervise graduate and/or undergraduate student assistants, including for the on-site implementation of the intensive Evans School / Junior Summer Institute as well as support for other undergraduate programming or other needs.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree and at least one year of professional experience staffing programs or projects in the field of education, nonprofits, social services, student services, and/or community engagement.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must possess and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with UW constituents at every level.

Must possess and demonstrate skill at managing complex processes with many clients simultaneously.

Must possess professional integrity and a high degree of discretion and diplomacy.

Must maintain a service-oriented approach across all areas of responsibility.

Must be highly organized, able to work independently and collaboratively, with an ability to maintain and safeguard confidential communication and documentation.

Must demonstrate experience and ability to work with diverse populations.

Must have computer technology experience, demonstrated ability to utilize scheduling tools, and the ability to create and revise website content.
