Vacancy expired!
Have you been looking for a job in this horrible job market and been unlucky? Do you have a heart for serving? Are you thinking about starting a career in healthcare? Are you not necessarily interested in healthcare but need some extra money? You might be my next favorite caregiver/personal care assistant!
Hey, I’m Allegra! I’m in my early 30s, and I’m extremely independent. I’m a writer, a free-spirit, a traveler, a dreamer. However, I’m only mentally independent as I have muscular dystrophy, and my body is basically just for decoration at this point. I’m in a wheelchair and can only move two fingers on my right hand. Still, I work, date, party occasionally, and need people like you to help me live my life. Usually, when people think of caregivers, they just think of working in a nursing home with old people, but this isn’t that. Most people really like working for me because I’m nice-ish and fun-ish. You could help me live a “normal” life.
Shifts available: Ideally, you could work 2-3 shifts but this is flexible.
Days:
Sundays (starting in June) 8am-6pm or to 1am with opportunities to fill in on weekdays
Nights:
Mondays 6pm-12am
Saturdays 6pm-8am (you can sleep for this shift when I sleep)
Sundays 6pm-1am
The shifts are in a process of change, so I love hiring people with some flexibility.
Responsibilities:
- feeding me
- Taking me to the restroom
- Light housekeeping
- Dressing me
- Driving me around to run errands or go out
- Putting me to bed/getting me up
- Anything you would do for yourself, I need your help with it
Benefits:
- Starting rate is $20/hr with regular opportunity for raises
- 80hrs/month gets you healthcare
- Opportunity for travel and to attend shows and events with me at no expense to you
- Unionized
You:
- Identify as female, male, everything in between (LGBTQ ally, here)
- Are not in a huge hurry to start. This is a job working for the state, so hiring can take at least a month if you’re not already an hca/ip
- Are a night owl if you want the night shift
- 18+
- Have a driver’s license with a good driving record
- Likes dogs because I have 2 small ones
- Can pass a background check (minor infractions are fine)
- Can commit to a year or close to it
- Has the time to take 75 hours of classes that the state pays for and gives you several months to do (if you already have your cna/hca/ma you don’t need to take these classes). You don’t need any medical background, I can teach what you need to know.
- You can entertain yourself during downtime. Most nights, I won’t be super busy but some nights I will. The day shift is busier but still has downtime
- You can be a self-starter when it comes to cleaning up after me and you
- This is a great part time position and or for people that work remotely. If you already work 40 hours on-site somewhere, I’m not going to give you any nights because you will be exhausted.
- no experience needed, great learning opportunity for med students though
- You understand I have no autonomy without PCAs
