Hello! I am seeking 1 or more caregivers to provide full-time assistance to my disabled mother inside my home, starting April 1st ideally. This could be a M-F day position, but I am open to making a schedule that can work for everyone. Please still apply even if you are looking for part time - I foresee needing a few different part time help for evening/weekend coverage as well. I also have an extra bedroom available that could be offered as part of this position in the future, if wanting a more live-in role. Must love big dogs. We’re located in a 4 bedroom one story house on a park-like acre of land located at the south end of Federal Way - Near Five Mile Lake. 20 minutes from downtown Tacoma, 35 minutes from downtown Seattle. No bus line.

This role will primarily involve taking care my disabled mother. She is paralyzed and slightly mentally challenged and needs support with mobility, meals and other daily activities. The ideal candidate will have a background in assisting elderly individuals in an assisted living setting or similar, ideally have experience working with stroke or paralysis patients, and possess exceptional verbal communication.
About Mom:
She's great! I'd say she is pretty easy on the scale of needs. She is late 60s, was super active until about 6 months ago, unfortunately brain cancer was discovered and emergency surgery was needed. As a result, she had a stroke that paralyzed her entire left side, then radiation caused some light brain damage. She is wheelchair bound but spends most of her time in bed for comfort. Limited vision. She has some short term memory loss but is fully able to communicate and has no dementia-like issues. She is on her phone, internet and talking to family/friends throughout the day. PT & OT visits a few times a week, along with a nurse. She is incontinent and primarily uses diapers that require frequent changes -small bladder. She communicates effectively and is pleasant to get along with, has a positive personality, loves to hangout and listen to your stories as well. She just needs frequent changes, some light range of motion/repositioning, healthy meals, assistance with medication, and companionship. She enjoys watching nature shows, she is a huge animal lover. There are two friendly large dogs in the home, well behaved, and there will be visitor dogs occasionally. She will be moving into my home on 4/1 so this will be a relatively new venture for us!
Responsibilities:
Assisting with Daily Activities:
Lifting and stabilizing another human in the bathroom and in and out of bed is required.
Help with dressing, bathing, grooming, and diaper changing
Assist with mobility and full assistance to transfer
Assist with routine repositioning and range of motion
Assist with taking on and taking off durable medical equipment: ie. foot brace, knee brace, arm sling, hand brace.
Ensure safety at all times
Meal Preparation:
Prepare and serve meals according to their preferences and restrictions.
Medication Management - track and administer medications.
Companionship:
Engage in meaningful interactions as desired, but respect desire for privacy and alone time, being available when needed.
Household Duties:
Maintain a clean and organized living environment.
Perform housekeeping duties, such as cleaning, laundry, and organization.
Transportation:
Might need assistance to drive mom to medical or other appointments as necessary and ensure their safety during transportation.
Communication:
Keep family members informed about any changes in moms condition or needs.
Maintain clear and open communication with the family regarding any concerns or updates.
Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
Dependable and kind
1+ year experience caregiving for the elderly or disabled
References from previous caregiving roles.
Physically able to assist with full body transfer from bed to wheelchair or vice-versa, using gait belt or other tools. Must be capable of assisting lifting a 150lb woman.
Physically capable of lifting, turning, bending, squating, reaching, etc. to assist a disabled person.
Compassionate and empathetic with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to adapt to changing needs
Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license - NOT located near a bus line.
A willingness to run occasional errands and assist with appointments, if needed.
PREFERRED:
Experience working with paralyzed individuals
Certified Nursing Assistant designation (I, the daughter, have my CNA as well so happy to assist with any training needed)
Experience dealing with individuals with cognitive impairments
Basic first aid is a plus.
HIGHLY DESIRED
English and Spanish speaking. We will be traveling to Mexico for a week at some point in the next 2 months to deal with her affairs and I would like to have a caregiver assist me with both care and translation!
WORKING HOURS: Starting 4/1 preferred to start M-F daytime 8 hours, but overall looking for someone or multiple staff to cover more outside just those hours. After 4/15 I will move to WFH and need someone at LEAST 35-40 hours a week to assist - this could be M-F as well, but I’m open for more hours/different schedules to fit your needs as well. Overall looking to fill approximately 55-60 hours coverage weekly - this can be with the same caregiver or multiple.
This position has the potential to turn into a live-in position with a separate bedroom included.
SALARY:
$19-22 per hour Or negotiated daily rate; Salary depending on Experience and Schedule flexibility
Paid directly by family.
