Estate Manager (Farm Manager)

Magnolia Farms has a very rare and unique position available for a caring and experienced Farm Estate Manager (Farm Manager) to run the operations of a small farm in Bothell, WA. The sprawling 70-acre farm is off the north shore of Lake Washington and is home to a small group of livestock, stables, barns, corrals, arenas, barn cats, and grasslands. As the Estate Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the care and management of our animals, as well as take overall pride in all Magnolia farms operations and property.

Responsibilities:

Animal Husbandry

· Ensure the health, well-being, and optimal conditions for our animals

· Oversee 2x daily health checks, feeding, and watering of farm animals

· Basic animal first aid (we have professional veterinary services)

· Caring for barn cats

· Daily upkeep of barns to maintain safety, cleanliness of bedding, and ventilation

· Sourcing of all supplies, feed, and equipment

Staff Management

· Supervise and mentor a team of 3 farm hands

· Maintain the safety of all staff, hold safety meetings, ensure safety practices are being utilized

· Bi-weekly timecard approvals and time off requests

· Communication via Slack of daily tasks and record keeping of duties

· Assist in recruiting when needed

Farm Management

·Train, lead, and help the team maintain farm grounds, gardens, facilities, and equipment to uphold standards of excellence

· Pasture maintenance and management to maintain supplemental food for animals

· Management of farm’s Trucks, utility vehicles Water, Fencing, Electrical, Plumbing, Heavy Equipment, small equipment, and Irrigation systems

· Riding/Push mowing of grounds.

·Mowing and maintenance of utility vehicle roads, pasture land, and rough areas using a John Deere 4710 tractor with attachments

· Weed and brush removal

· Interaction with the general public and trespassers being curious about the farm

· Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualification:

· Extensive experience around large farm animals with a passion and commitment to animal welfare

· Farm management with people, livestock, and agriculture operations experience

· Knowledge of ornamental garden care and maintenance

· Experience operating a full-sized tractor with attachments

· Driver’s license with active auto insurance, must clear a driver’s MVR

· Live within a reasonable distance of the farm and have reliable transportation.

· Flexible schedule, due to farm needs

· Strong level of situational awareness

· Small engine repair experience, preferred

· Excellent organizational and communication skills

· Ability to prioritize and problem-solve

· Self-motivated, practical, common sense, great managerial skills, and high level of interest

Work Environment:

The typical work environment for the Estate Manager is dynamic and diverse. This will primarily be an outdoor job in Western Washington. As such, you will be exposed to different types of weather throughout the year. Each season will have its challenging weather conditions.

· Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally

· Stand/kneel/bend/stoop/walk for extended periods of time (8+ hours a day)

· Work can be dusty and is considered an environment that is high in allergens (grasses, trees, hay, animals, etc.)

· Repetitive motions

· Ability to withstand working in the elements
