Dental Clinic Support Technician

Position Summary:

The Dental Clinic Support Technician position will be supporting, managing, and documenting infection control and clinic equipment operations compliance. The Dental Clinic Support Technician performs all maintenance of the dental equipment and minor repairs as well as reports any equipment, maintenance, and repair needs. The Dental Clinic Support Technician will also track compliance and assist in maintaining the Quality Assurance Plan. This position documents equipment maintenance, completes minor repairs, and facilitates scheduling of third-party maintenance and repairs for all dental equipment in the dental clinic and labs according to prescribed procedures and manufacturing guidelines. The Dental Clinic Support Technician will assist the Clinic Manager and Office Manager with inventory and ordering of supplies, by performing inventory control functions through manual or computerized programs for tracking purposes. The Dental Clinic Support Technician will support the Dental Hygiene Program Director with compliance reporting and annual safety compliance. This position reports to the Program Director and works jointly with the Clinic Manager and Office Manager to ensure full function of the dental department.

Essential Functions: The Dental Clinic Support Technician (Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 2) will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

Receives and manages inventories and assembles equipment, sterilizes, and stores instruments as directed.

Rotates products to accommodate inventory movement before shelf-life expiration dates.

Tracks compliance, testing processes through both manual and computerized program as applicable.

Maintains, cleans, and tests sterilizing, dental operatory, and dental lab equipment.

Troubleshoots and performs minor repairs of all dental clinic, radiology and lab equipment, and monitors and schedules services for equipment that must be maintained by third parties.

Schedules and tracks third party required maintenance and creates maintenance work orders for facility upkeep.

Performs, analyzes, and documents dental equipment function tests using manufacturers, state laws, and/or CDC guidelines; takes appropriate action for abnormal results.

Maintains waterlines of dental units, performs water testing, shocking and flushing lines (as needed) per CDC recommendations, product specifications, and equipment manufacturer’s guidelines.

Cleans and sanitizes equipment as part of clinic and equipment maintenance.

Completes maintenance logs, inventory, and equipment lists.

Prepares, disposes of, and manages infectious wastes, sharps, chemical and other hazardous wastes as per local, state, and federal regulations.

Reports changes in sterilization log and equipment issues to Program Director.

Oversees the maintenance of all departmental sterilizers and other clinic and lab equipment.

Maintains MSDS sheets for all products in the clinic, lab, and radiology lab per local, state, and federal regulations. Presents MSDS sheets for all new products at department or safety meetings.

Prepares reports as applicable for compliance and accreditation reporting.

Assists in Quality Assurance including updates to WISHA/OSHA manual and supports safety committee meetings.

Oversees daily lab coat and towel laundering.

Opens clinic and prepares sterilization equipment for daily clinic operations.

Maintains clinic forms and clinic supplies, oversees stocking of clinic inventory, reports supply needs to Clinic Manager for ordering.

In the absence of the Clinic Manager and Office Manager covers the clinic front desk.

Other duties include supporting clinic and program tasks as needed.

Required Education:

GED or Highschool Diploma

Required Experience:

Experience in equipment maintenance and inventory management.

Verbal and written communication skills to communicate with team, students, and/or patients.

General computer skills required.

Special Requirements:

Must pass criminal background records check.

Willingness to participate in trainings on dental clinic equipment, as prior experience necessitates.

Ability to obtain HIPAA and Blood borne Pathogen’s certificate within first month of hire.

Must provide proof of vaccination history, and willing to maintain compliance of vaccinations, as per the CDC recommendations for Health Care Providers, including COVID vaccination, and provide a TB test result as per current standards.

Must be able to wear full personal protective equipment, including mask, safety glasses, gloves, and lab coat.

Certified/trained or willing to be certified/trained in the maintenance and repair of ADEC dental chairs and various medical and dental clinic equipment.

Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds, climb a ladder, bend, kneel, and reach overhead.

The successful candidate must consent to and pass a criminal background check after a conditional offer of employment. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will considered in determining the applicant's suitability to perform in this position.
