POSITION SUMMARY

The Detail Worker Apprentice will work alongside seasoned professionals in the fabrication of custom wood products. This position offers hands-on training in operating woodworking machinery, utilizing various hand tools, and understanding the intricacies of woodworking techniques.

SHIFT

Monday - Thursday 1:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. & Friday 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Some overtime and weekend required based on business needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in setting up and operating woodworking machines and hand tools to fabricate cabinets and other custom wood products.

Study blueprints or drawings to understand the sequence of cutting or shaping operations.

Mark dimensions and outlines of parts on paper or lumber stock according to specifications.

Learn to match materials for color, grain, and texture.

Assist in trimming component parts of joints for a snug fit using hand tools.

Drill holes for insertion of screws or dowels as directed.

Assist in gluing, fitting, and clamping parts together to form complete units.

Drive nails or other fasteners into joints under supervision.

Participate in sanding and scraping surfaces and joints to prepare articles for finishing.

Learn to estimate hours and material take-off from drawings.

Maintain regular and reliable attendance, arrive on time for scheduled shifts, and adhere to the company’s attendance policies and procedures.

Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

High School diploma or GED.

No prior experience required; willingness to learn and a passion for craftsmanship are essential.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Basic understanding of mathematics.

Ability to operate standard shop machinery and hand tools.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.

Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.

Ability to work schedule as assigned.

Standing approximately 8-10 hours, 5 days a week, depending on business need, may be required to work 6 days/week depending on business need.

Fine motor abilities are needed to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Specific vision abilities might be required by this job that include close vision, particularly reading that may be very fine print.

Regular twisting, bending, squatting, pushing, pivoting, and moving or lifting 10-15 pounds.

Employees will frequently lift and/or move 10-25 pounds while occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Exposure to moving mechanical parts such as saw blades.

Exposed to vibration from machines.

Noise level is loud and ear protection is on hand.

Employees may be exposed to hazardous chemicals in the workplace.

Sawdust is always present, and eye protection always required.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT: Frontier Door and Cabinet’s Safety Program and all established safety rules must be followed. This will include safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection (when needed) while on the production floor. This position will also require the use of gloves and a respirator while spraying.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $21.00 per hour
