Job description
Gardener/Landscape Installation
Withey Price Landscape and Design, a garden design/build firm, is seeking to fill a full time position. The perfect candidate would be interested in both installation of new gardens (hardscape, stone cutting, construction, etc) and routine garden maintenance (planting, debris clean up, pruning, etc.)
We currently have a great crew and are looking to bring another person onboard.
Applicant must be willing to take and follow instruction, both written and verbal. We also value a great learner with a willingness to ask questions.
The preferred applicant will either have at least two years experience working with plants in gardens, or two years experience in some kind of construction or hard labor and have a comfort with power tools, and/or experience in safely operating equipment such as excavators, articulated loaders/forklifts.
If the applicant has a mix of the above experience, but less than two years of either, we are happy to interview them, and further train them if they meet our other criteria.
Applicant must enjoy working outdoors, and tolerate all local climatic conditions, including winter weather.
Applicant must be able to lift and carry up to 60lbs. repeatedly.
Applicant must be honest and reliable, have a good work ethic, be able to work well with others and carry out instructions on their own.
Applicant must appear neat, clean, and well groomed at the beginning of each work day. The degree of cleanliness of outer wear is subject to the task at hand, of which they would be informed beforehand: it could include passing through an entirely white and fragile interior space, which means very clean clothes, or continuing to plant trees, which means the ‘dirty’ (not smelly), clothes from the day before are acceptable.
Applicant must be able to continue working safely and effectively while carrying on any conversation/banter with workmates.
Applicant must have and use e-mail since instructions/daily work schedules are determined and/or changed the prior evening. Texting between employees/management for work related issues is a daily occurrence.
Reliable transportation is required as our job sites are widely situated throughout the Seattle area. Carpooling is encouraged, but must be worked out amongst the interested parties.
Some mandatory overtime will be required seasonally.
Duties may include all or some of the following, depending on experience:
Weeding
Plant grooming
Fertilizing
Plant health monitoring; making/following recommendations for the safe treatment of disease and pest control (OMRI and IPM based, ‘Caution’ category labeled materials only)
Irrigation monitoring to ensure proper watering of containers and beds
Planting and aftercare of new materials
Cleaning of outdoor areas (sweeping, raking, pressure washing, scrubbing, etc.)
Carrying and spreading mulch, amendments, and soil
Hauling debris (carefully!) for removal from properties
Depending on hardscape construction experience,
Applicant may be asked to assist other crew members with the following:
The installation of stone paving and landscape rock
The installation of irrigation systems
The construction of outdoor structures (fences, gates, decks, trellises)
Some pruning of woody materials may be allowed, but only after close instruction, and we (Withey Price), are shown that both esthetic and proper horticultural practices are followed.

Pay DOE, starting from a baseline of $28.00 per hour
