Job SummaryThis position is 37.5 hours per week. The position allocated to this class performs clerical or technical support work requiring the application of basic work methods, policies, procedures and practices. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in applying working knowledge of departmental functions, as well as some familiarity with the laws and regulations controlling those functions. This classification is distinguished from the Administrative Support Specialist 2 class in that duties are less varied, complex or technical; proficiency in job performance is typically achieved in a shorter period of time; there are generally fewer individual steps to complete a work process or cycle; the use of independent judgment is most often from a defined set of options. WHO MAY APPLY: This recruitment is open to all applicants meeting the minimum requirements. Priority consideration will be given to Spokane County employees in a position covered by the Master Contract submitting applications between 7/31/24 and 8/7 /24. First consideration will be given to applicants working in the Clerk's office in a position covered by the 1553 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA); second consideration given to County-wide applicants in a position covered by the 1553 CBA; third consideration given to applicants covered by the Master Contract CBA; fourth consideration will be given to all other applicants. TOTAL COMPENSATION: $40,339 - $56,458 annually. Total compensation is an estimate based upon base compensation, median retirement fund contributions, and current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates (including medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability, and leave). The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices. Examples of Duties

Answers incoming calls; takes messages as appropriate; directs caller to correct individual.

Provides information and answers questions within scope of knowledge.

Reviews and checks paperwork coming from other divisions or departments for accuracy and completeness; corrects or returns work for correction prior to processing.

Resolves errors by researching causes and/or remedies which may require contacting the public, vendors or public and private agencies, groups or individuals.

Processes and/or enters data or information in computer system.

Compiles and evaluates necessary data to supply a correct, accurate and finished product.

Types for production and accuracy; self-composes or edits work of others; takes dictation and/or transcribes; answers correspondence; controls inventory and ordering of supplies; may assist in preparing vouchers and making purchases.

Attends and records hearings; computes fees and issues relevant forms within statutory or office policy limitations; receives and issues receipts for payments for licenses, permits, services, etc.

Processes tickets and citations.

Operates, maintains and makes minor repairs or adjustments and sets up equipment for certain functions; i.e., election and other kinds of office equipment.

Performs other related duties as required/assigned.

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Six (6) months of general office work experience.

May substitute coursework or training in office practices, secretarial science or other related area for up to six (6) months of the required work experience.

Selection Factors

Knowledge of administrative support functions including the operation of standard office machines and equipment including word processing programs and computer terminals.

Knowledge of basic English composition, spelling, grammar and other support skills as required by the position.

Knowledge of the operations, functions and terminology common to the work applied for.

Skilled in communicating effectively both orally and in writing, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levels and with the general public.

Skilled in the use of computers and software needed to perform the assigned duties.

Ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers, supervisors, officials and the general public.

Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.

Ability to work with speed and accuracy in a courteous manner when dealing with the public.

Ability to handle routine mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.

Deputy Sheriff's receive a benefit through their union for disability.RETIREMENTRetirement Plan (401a)Spokane County employees are automatically included in the Washington State Retirement System. Both the employer and the employee contribute to the plan.
