Explore our legacy, projects, and opportunities at https://www.jhkelly.com/ Summary: As a Senior Estimator, you will lead the preparation of estimates for substantial Commercial Mechanical Projects, while also assuming a pivotal role in developing and mentoring junior team members. Your primary focus will be directing estimations and turnover procedures, encompassing bid breakdown, setup, tracking, and seamless communication throughout the estimation process. These responsibilities will span projects ranging magnitudes from $500 to over $20 million. This position reports to the Estimating & Preconstruction Manager. Key Metrics:
Timely completion and accuracy of estimates
Cultivation of satisfied customers, fostering recurring business relationships
Consistent meeting or surpassing of the expectations set by key stakeholders
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the team on organized bid breakdown of the project and method of takeoff strategies for proper set-up of estimate
Review project scope and specifications
Coordinate with the Supply Chain team for procurement on the pricing of materials and equipment
Provide specifications and takeoff quantities
Perform takeoff of all items shown and specified using applicable software like Quote Soft and Trimble
Receive all addenda, update estimate accordingly, and communicate all changes to the bid team
Prepare RFI log and participate in the writing of all RFI’s
Prepare technical clarifications and exclusions for the estimate.
Provide quick estimate responses to smaller-sized projects
Participate in project turnover meetings
Collaborate closely with the Project Manager for a cost breakdown of the estimate to generate unit/hour, material, and subcontractor analysis for project turnover.
Review the “for construction” drawings for revisions
Perform additional tasks as assigned
Relationships:
Collaborate with supervisor and Estimating team to provide information from estimate and job cost records
Maintain proactive and positive relationships within the crafts, including shop and field craft personnel.
Foster positive relationships with customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, safety, CAD/BIM, accounting, IT, and all project teams.
Experience / Qualifications:
BS or BA degree with emphasis on Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or other applicable degree or experience that is equivalent
15+ years of experience with emphasis in plumbing/piping in conceptual design and estimating mechanical projects from $500 to $20+ million is preferred
Above average computer skills using estimating software such as Trimble Autobid software, Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite
Field and/or shop experience is a plus
Ability to operate independently and autonomously, and yet possess the discretionary judgment to know when it is appropriate to consult with others in the organization
Demonstrate a corresponding high sense of integrity
Demonstrated experience/ability to develop new business opportunities
Strong interpersonal and project management abilities, employing strong organizational skills to successfully manage multiple bids at once

Compensation: $55-$69 per hour (DOE), FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible).
