Who we are: Almond Blossom is a nut roasting business, a deli style cafe and a retail store all in one. We also sell our nut products wholesale (so we do lots of packaging and shipping). On occasion we do a limited amount of catering.
Basic job overview: The new hire will be involved with all aspects of our guest dining experience. The workday begins at 8:30 a.m. with food prep for soups, salads, sandwiches, baked goods and occasional catering. Once we open our doors for the day the new hire will take part in every activity of the deli style eatery and retail store, greeting and seating guests, taking orders, bringing drinks to tables, preparing meals as ordered, bussing tables, washing dishes (we do not have a designated dishwashing person so there are a LOT of dishes to do over the course of the day using a dishwashing machine), overseeing food supplies, paper goods and groceries, general cleaning and organizing of the kitchen. Downtime will be spent cleaning kitchen and dining area, sweeping and mopping as needed, labeling and filling bags of nuts.
There are occasions where the workday may begin earlier/end sooner, due to catering schedules or wholesale nut shipment deadlines.
New hire must be an outgoing people person and have good communication skills both with guests and co-workers.
New hire will be in a situation where they will very likely be standing during the entire shift.
New hire must work well in a team environment but also have the ability to work alone when scheduling dictates.
Job skills requirements: Applicants must read and write English fluently. Good communication skills along with basic math skills are a must. Applicant must have experience with handling cash (and should know how to count change back without the aid of a register or calculator) and working with the general public. Preference given to applicants who have had prior food service work history. A current food worker card must be available upon hire.
Of note, our shelving is a bit on the high side and past employees who were below average height often found this to be a problem. We CAN’T make changes to accommodate for this issue.
Applicant will cross train in all departments and will step into other job roles, as needed, to cover for employee callouts and vacations.
Work hours: This position is Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a half hour for lunch. There is some flexibility with these hours, insomuch as we can accommodate, within reason, depending on your personal life scheduling needs. There will be occasional work on Saturdays to cover shifts as needed. We are closed on Sundays.
Wage: This will be discussed during interview. The position is hourly plus tips. Our discussion about wages will center on your ability to perform the duties as described, the willingness to be a "make it happen" person and your past job history.
