The Department of Biology in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Student Success Coordinator.
About the Opportunity
The Student Success Coordinator (SSC) in the Department of Biology will provide support to a complex science unit that administers two large Bachelor of Science degrees. The SSC will design, implement, and coordinate activities in the areas of recruitment, retention, and advising for approximately 600 majors and will teach sections of the freshman orientation course (BIOL 191). The SSC will be responsible for the design and implementation of outreach and recruitment initiatives in coordination with the Department Chair, Associate Chairs, and the STEM Collaborative.

What You\'ll Do
Advising
Serve as an advisor in the department of biology, with similar advising load to other departmental professional advisors, and assist advisees through all stages of academic plan development and degree progression.
Apply the WVU Undergraduate Catalog College policies and procedures for the purpose of assisting students matriculating to degree programs, academic majors, and academic minors.
Coordinate with Career Services and central student services to assist students in identifying career pathways and in building a professional profile for eventual placement.
Actively participate on the Advising Committee in the Department of Biology.
Attend trainings and workshops around advising, be a part of the Advising community at WVU, communicate new developments in academic advising, recruitment and retention, and programmatic changes to the team of advisors.
Complete/coordinate accountability checks, such as 90 credit checks and graduation lists.
Serve as point of contact for advising teams in ECAS-UGS, Honors, CLASS, ECAS-MDS and other spaces that direct students into the Department of Biology.
Serve as the departmental representative to committees/task forces related to advising, recruiting and retention to provide feedback and ideas to the college/university advising leadership.
Attend trainings, prepare materials and train other advisors for New Student Orientation
Coordinate Welcome Week events.
Teach and provide curricular advice for First-Year Seminar courses (BIOL 191).
Innovate and create new advising initiatives.

Assist with administration, management and supervision of strength training and conditioning functions for student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletic program, within the guidelines, rules and regulations of West Virginia University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA.

What You\'ll Do
Oversee the strength and conditioning programs for teams assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director for Strength and Conditioning-Olympic Sports. Specific sport assignments include Olympic sports.
Design, implement and conduct sport-specific strength and conditioning programs that facilitate maximum benefits for student-athletes including individualized, comprehensive and year-round programs.
Supervise and instruct student-athletes and coaches in all aspects of weight training, conditioning and nutrition.
Collaborate with coaches and athletic training staff on the overall conditioning, rehabilitation and welfare of student-athletes.
Design and maintain student-athlete records and monitor progress of training programs.
Oversee general activities in weight room and assist other staff members as needed. Supervise weight room facilities to insure a safe and functional environment.
Maintain inventory of nutritional products for the assigned weight room.
Travel with teams as requested.
Maintain certifications and continue further education in the field of strength, speed and conditioning.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director for Strength and Conditioning-Olympic Sports
Report directly to the Assistant Athletics Director for Strength and Conditioning-Olympic Sports; must also work closely with all others involved with carrying out the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletic program.
Maintain knowledge of and comply with all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines of West Virginia University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA; must adhere to NCAA Bylaw 11.1 Conduct of Athletic Personnel. Failure to adhere to these policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action including possible suspension and termination.
