The College of Science and Mathematics prepares future scientists, mathematicians, teachers, health professionals, and researchers to tackle real-world challenges in STEM fields. With over 4,500 student majors, the college offers innovative laboratory research, fieldwork, and community-based learning experiences across seven departments and specialized centers like the STEM Education Center and the Downing Planetarium. Faculty engage in cutting-edge research, resulting in numerous publications and conference presentations each year, focusing on areas such as cancer treatment, biotechnology, cybersecurity, and environmental science. With 108 full-time faculty members securing over $5M annually in grants, the college aims to enhance student success, community outreach, and partnerships through the recruitment of innovative staff and scholars and the establishment of state-of-the-art facilities. Ultimately, the college seeks to serve as a national model for integrating teaching and research in STEM education while leading educational outreach and community service efforts at regional and state levels.

What you will be doing:
As the Director of Development, your primary responsibility revolves around managing and facilitating fundraising efforts for the College, with a focus on identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major and principal gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. You will serve as a key liaison between the College and campus units, fostering collaboration and ensuring strategic alignment in fundraising efforts to support the College's mission and goals.
In partnership with the Dean, you will lead the College's advancement team and work together to plan and execute development and campaign strategies. Additionally, you'll provide staff support to philanthropically focused advisory groups, ensuring alignment with the College's fundraising objectives.
The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $80,000 - $92,000 based on experience.
How you will be spending your time:
Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and secure major gifts through comprehensive prospect research, frequent meetings to assess capacity and interest, strategic cultivation efforts, proposal development, and occasional collaboration with senior administrators for principal gifts exceeding $250,000.
Stewardship: Regularly interact with philanthropic partners to ensure good stewardship of gifts received.
Special Events: Occasionally organize and present special events designed to engage prospective philanthropic partners.
Boards and Volunteer Engagement: Frequently interact with volunteer leaders and boards to engage them in the philanthropic mission of the College.
Annual Fundraising: Occasionally manage college-based solicitations and special campaigns, interfacing often with the central Annual Giving office on strategies and scripts for solicitation.
What you will bring:
Bachelor's degree required from a regionally accredited institution.
Minimum of four years of increasingly responsible and successful fundraising experience or professional experience with transferable skills such as sales, marketing, or public relations.
Experience with a nonprofit organization.
Experience with comprehensive campaigns and/or specific experience in major gift solicitation, corporate/foundation relations, or constituent relations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's or other advanced degree preferred.
Experience/background in higher education.
Experience with alumni/donor databases and campus applications such as Advance, Reeher or Raiser’s Edge.
