Job Description Position will be hybrid(3x per week) in one of the following AbbVie locations Lake County IL, Irvine CA, or Florham Park NJ. The Associate Scientific Director provides medical and scientific strategic and operational input into core medical affairs activities such as: health-care professional and provider interactions (Payers, Patients, Prescribers, and Providers); generation of clinical and scientific data (enhancing therapeutic benefit and value); educational initiatives (medical education, data, guidelines, and value proposition); safeguarding patient safety (risk minimization activities and safety surveillance activities). This Associate Scientific Director position supports the development and execution of the migraine medical strategy for onabotulinumtoxinA (onabotA).
With oversight, contribute to the development of medical strategy for onabotA and the migraine portfolio (e.g., as a Medical Functional Plan lead or as a brand champion for the annual integrated strategic planning process)
Develop medical education tactics in line with the medical functional plan and the integrated brand team strategy.
Identify and design impactful internal training programs: aiming to shape scientific understanding and medical practice.
Generate clinical and scientific data per evidence gap assessment.
Participate in the US conference planning and execution.
Develop scientifically accurate marketing materials, medical education programs, and advisory boards.
Collect, compile and summarize feedback from multiple scientific sources to provide relevant insights to the broader therapeutic area team (e.g., provide subject matter expertise for MSLs, Value & Outcomes and Commercial teams).
As needed, responsible for performing the accurate and detailed medical review of complex advertising and promotional materials for assigned therapeutic area(s) within Medical Affairs.
Ensure budgets, timelines, compliance requirements are factored into programs’ scientific activities.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the biotech/ pharmaceutical industry or academia or equivalent with demonstrated ability to lead in a cross-functional matrixed environment.
Bachelor’s Degree in the sciences. Advanced scientific degree (e.g., PhD, MD/DO, PharmD, NP, MSN) preferred.
Demonstrated advanced analytical and critical-thinking skills.
Excellent communication skills (written and presentation).
Ability to work in a fast-paced corporate environment. Tolerance for ambiguity. High sense of urgency and commitment to excellence.
Excellent planning and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and demonstrate good business judgment.
Strong project management and teamwork skills to address project risks and issues.
Ability to influence without direct authority to effectively deliver cross-functional projects.
Good understanding of legal and regulatory guidelines (e.g. knowledge of OPDP promotional regulations, SIUU guidance).
Knowledge of clinical trial design, results and methodology, regulatory and compliance requirements governing development of promotional and non-promotional materials is desired.
Associate Director, Scientific Medical Affairs works closely across key cross-functional partners (e.g., Commercial and Medical & Health Impact functions) to provide strategic medical input into core brand strategy.
