This role is integral to optimizing the performance of our automated systems, supporting the lifecycle of our equipment, and ensuring adherence to stringent regulatory standards.The Controls Engineer will be responsible for analyzing and improving existing equipment, processes, and infrastructure, acting as a subject matter expert (SME) for designated systems and technologies, and providing technical guidance to optimize business continuity. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the automation space, with a proven track record in troubleshooting, system design, and maintenance.Key Responsibilities:

System Analysis & Optimization: Analyze existing equipment, processes, and infrastructure to identify areas for improvement. Provide actionable recommendations to optimize performance and efficiency.

Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a technical expert for designated systems and technologies, offering recommendations and guidance to optimize operations.

Risk Management & Contingency Planning: Anticipate potential process-related issues, technical conflicts, and risks, developing contingency plans to ensure business continuity.

Troubleshooting & Modifications: Perform troubleshooting and system modifications on automated equipment, ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical and medical device GMP standards and change control policies.

Documentation & SOP Development: Create, update, and modify system specifications and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for supported systems.

Training & Support: Provide training to end-users and peers on system operations, ensuring knowledge transfer and effective use of automated equipment.

Lifecycle Support: Support software lifecycle management efforts, including upgrades, maintenance, and version control.

Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the ongoing improvement and optimization of automated systems, ensuring operational excellence.

Validation & Commissioning: Provide documentation, testing, commissioning, and validation support in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

Project Implementation: Provide project support, including planning, execution, and monitoring of system implementations and upgrades.

Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative duties, system upgrades, and maintenance tasks for equipment and control systems.

Required Qualifications:

Experience:

4+ years of experience for Junior-level roles.

Strong experience in automation and control systems engineering, including troubleshooting, design, and maintenance.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE, etc.).

Strong knowledge of control systems, including the ability to troubleshoot, modify, and optimize systems.

Familiarity with automation software such as Studio 5000, Step 7, Wonderware, FactoryTalk, OSI PI, Ignition, and MES systems.

Desirable Skills:

Experience in motion or servo control systems.

Knowledge of Plant PAX, Rockwell Pharmasuite, and robotic systems (e.g., Fanuc, ABB).

Work Environment:This role will be based on-site at our facility, where you will work in a fast-paced, dynamic medical device company. You will be part of an experienced automation team, working under the leadership of a manager with a team of 28 engineers. The team is currently working overtime due to understaffing, and we are actively looking to fill these critical positions to support ongoing operations.Employee Value Proposition (EVP):

Compensation:

Minimum Pay Rate: $63.00 per hour

Maximum Pay Rate: $70.00 per hour

Additional Information:

On-site Requirement: This role requires 100% on-site presence. Relocation assistance may be provided, although local candidates are preferred.

Education: A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in an engineering discipline, though other technical degrees may be considered.

Support Role: The Controls Engineer will support production processes, collaborating with the reliability team to implement changes and improvements. They will act as system administrators for the equipment, supporting both daily operations and project-based initiatives.

Team Structure: The team will provide day-to-day support for various areas of the facility, with engineers typically specializing in specific systems rather than covering the entire facility.
