DESCRIPTIONThe City of Long Beach, Department of Health and Human Services i s recruiting for one (1) unclassified, at-will, full-time Public Health Professional I to serve as theYouth Services Coordinator. Reporting to the (Office of) Youth Development Program Manager (Public Health Professional III), the Public Health Professional I will work as the Youth Services Coordinator. The Office of Youth Development is located in the new Ronald R. Arias Health Equity Center, 6335 Myrtle Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90805.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Manage the City’s Youth Advisory Council as it relates to planning, facilitating, capacity building, and evaluations;

Lead efforts to support the Youth Advisory Council in their role as an accountability structure for the Long Beach Strategic Plan for Youth and Emerging Adults and the annual Youth Fund;

Assist with identifying resources to expand the Youth Advisory Council and other youth advisory bodies across the City;

Assist with managing invoicing for youth stipends and contracts for consultants and other vendors;

Support programming to strengthen youth and family engagement;

Support the daily operations of the Office of Youth Development to uplift goals and objectives outlined in the Long Beach Strategic Plan for Youth and Emerging Adults;

Support the development of a coordinated service referral network for all youth programs in Long Beach;

Identify youth development performance metrics and data-collecting methods;

Analyze and evaluate improvement in youth outcomes;

Engage with the city’s youth, families, and community-based organizations;

Assist with the development of grant proposals;

Assist with the management of contracts for youth services, including the development of bid quotes, management of vendor contracts, and preparation and review of grant billing to funding agencies;

Assist with media communications preparations for ongoing community engagement events; and

Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Social Work, Education, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a closely related field(proof required).

Program management experience in a public agency beyond the minimum requirements may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

One (1) year of professional experience in public health, public policy and administration or human services related programs serving vulnerable populations.

Valid motor vehicle operator license.

Required to obtain a California motor vehicle operator license within 6 months of employment if license is out of state. DMV K4 driver license information report printout required during onboarding if selected for position.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Social Work, Youth Development or a closely related field.

Four (4) years of experience working in public health, youth development or human services programs.

Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Experience supervising staff through reflective supervision, team building methods or similar practices.

Professional experience managing and developing grant proposals.

Bilingual skills (Spanish preferred).

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE:

Deep knowledge of youth development and issues facing youth.

Effectiveness with grant development and project management.

Significant experience in data analysis.

Experience with facilitating multi-stakeholder meetings and collaborative groups.

Excellence in interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Ability to conduct training and/or workshop sessions.

Public speaking in the areas of youth development.

Strong level of integrity & ethics and ability to use good judgment in challenging situations.

Ability and willingness to work collaboratively and foster public and private partnerships.

Ability to work comfortably across diverse levels of city and county management structures.

Knowledge of racial equity and trauma and resiliency informed approaches and practices.

Knowledge regarding youth development, community engagement, equity, and youth network capacity building practices and trauma informed approaches.

Knowledge of systems alignment to foster program and policy changes that uplift the voices of youth and equity.

Knowledge of City of Long Beach and Los Angeles County youth development priorities.

Proficiency with computers, including internet, email, and office productivity software (i.e. Microsoft Office).
