ABOUT THE MATH YOGIS

themathyogis.com

Math Yogis High-Impact Tutoring takes a data-driven approach with a focus on accountability and results, while emphasizing relationships and care in order to accelerate student learning.

While the pandemic was challenging for everyone in education, it has disproportionately affected students of color, low-income students, and those from underserved communities, widening the learning gap. In particular, math education, which is heavily reliant on in-person classroom interactions, suffered significantly. Addressing this directly is an equity issue and one where high-dosage tutoring becomes a necessity rather than a luxury. Math Yogis play a critical role in intervening and providing students the skills and learning needed to get back to grade-level.

The Math Yogis leverage research, years of experience in schools, and a proven design methodology to craft a small-group tutoring experience that accelerates student learning. Starting in the 2023-24 school year, The Math Yogis will offer a limited number of partnerships to schools during the "crunch time" period leading up to state testing.

ROLE SUMMARY

Math tutors will tutor in-person with a consistent group of one to eight students during the school-day on previously learned or new topics with the goal of students achieving grade-level proficiency. They will meet students a minimum of 2 a week for the duration of the school year. Tutoring will be done during school hours.

Tutors will receive training and coaching on instructional techniques, social emotional learning, and cultural competency within a mathematics context. Tutors will be equipped with curricular materials and plan to implement during tutoring sessions.
