Kitchen Manager

A kitchen manager oversees the kitchen’s operations and manages aspects of the dining experience. Their responsibilities include safety regulations, managing the workflow of food preparation, ordering food, overseeing deliveries, advising on menu ideation, monitoring kitchen staff schedules, managing kitchen staff performance, and ensuring exceptional food execution and standards.

While food preparation isn’t always their main task, they focus on efficiently leading kitchen activities to drive a restaurant’s competitive advantage and financial success.

Managing kitchen staff and coordinating food orders

Supervising food prep and cooking techniques

Checking food plating and temperatures

Hiring, training and scheduling kitchen staff

Performing quality control on food leaving the kitchen

Ordering products and sourcing alternates when needed

Preparing menus when needed

Monitoring staff and holding staff accountable to their job descriptions

Ensuring compliance with health and fire department regulations

Ensuring compliance with state, federal, and local food handling requirements and standards

Managing inventory so that all necessary ingredients are stocked for service

Streamlining the kitchen processes to maximize efficiencies’

Working with the Head Chef to develop and maintain the restaurant menu

Setting regular cleaning standards/schedules for the kitchen and verifying that staff is maintaining sanitation levels

Tracking kitchen finances to identify areas of opportunity for maintaining profitability

Physical stamina to withstand a full shift potentially on their feet for more than 8 hours

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of 2 years of leading a full-service kitchen as kitchen manager. Past operational experience of working with recipes, food costing, staff accountability and mentoring, cleaning schedules, inventory practices, organization, bilingual and strong communication skills.
