The Marine Electrician is responsible for performing electrical repairs and new construction aboard private vessels.
This role involves laying out, pulling, lifting out, and installing cable and conduit, preparing work areas, drilling holes, grinding metal surfaces, and welding mounting equipment.
The Marine Electrician will test electrical equipment and perform other related tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
Prepare work areas, drill holes, and grind metal surfaces
Install welds and hook up equipment
Lay out, pull, rip out, repair, and install cable and conduit
Test electrical equipment
Read composite blueprints, computer printouts, and Navy standards manual
Remove scrap and perform general cleanup
Perform electrical repair and new construction aboard private vessels
Troubleshoot, disassemble, and inspect electrical equipment
Clean electrical equipment and parts, reassemble, and operationally test equipment
Essential Skills
Knowledge of Navy AC (60 and 400 Hz) and DC electrical systems
Knowledge of Navy electrical and electronic systems
Familiarity with electrical systems such as switchboards, switchgear, distribution panels, controls, etc.
Experience with common electrical measuring instruments and various electronic measuring devices such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, power analyzers, and megohmmeters
Proficiency in using Precision Measuring Instrumentation
Ability to fabricate cable runs and wire ways
Ability to use power and hand tools
Ability to read composite blueprints, computer printouts, and Navy standards manuals
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Two years marine electrical experience and/or four years electrical experience
Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and be available to work any shift
Must comprehend written and verbal instructions and hear warning signals
Ability to read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings
Ability to complete 8-10 hook ups a day
