Description Robert Half is assisting a nonprofit organization in the education industry with their search for a skilled Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant will play a central role in ensuring the financial health of the organization by managing accounting processes and providing accurate reporting. You will work closely with leadership to track funding, manage grants, and support budgeting efforts—all while making a direct impact on the organization’s ability to provide essential educational services.Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day general ledger activities, including journal entries and reconciliation of accounts.
Assist with month-end and year-end closings, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting practices, including fund accounting and grant tracking/reporting.
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including handling vendor invoices and donor contributions.
Prepare financial reports and assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
Collaborate with the development team to track and reconcile donor-restricted funds.
Support annual audit preparation and ensure adherence to GAAP standards.
Provide insights and recommendations to leadership to streamline accounting operations.
Requirements
2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit or education sectors.
Proficiency in accounting software like QuickBooks or Sage Intacct; advanced Microsoft Excel skills are preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards, including fund accounting and grant management.
Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
CPA certification or experience working with an organization in the education industry is a plus but not required.
