The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a professional Hotel Engineer/Maintenance to join our team at Pacific View Inn.

Key Job Responsibilities

Responsible, as assigned by the General Manager, for engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, in order to maintain the guestrooms, public space and back of the house areas in good repair to ensure an attractive and well-maintained hotel.

Responds when dispatched or assigned to engineering and maintenance concerns; emergencies involving the property.

Position involves the inspection and repair to guestrooms, public space and back of house areas. Will need to repair, touch up or replace light bulbs, lamps, switches, outlets, faucets, toilets, hardware, filters, paint, furniture, wall covering, caulking, grouting, masonry, or other miscellaneous repairs.

This position requires the candidate to possess considerable knowledge of a wide variety of maintenance trades in order to visually inspect and detect items needing repair.

Candidate must have moderate experience of basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, wall covering, masonry, painting, and HVAC-mechanical related experience, which is used frequently on the job.

Performing of all assigned job duties, requires experience in using basic hand and power tools and the ability to stoop, kneel, grasp, lift, push and pull weights up to 100 lbs. The ability to climb ladders up to 30 feet high and reach in all directions, often time’s overhead is also required.

Performs and/or monitors maintenance and preventative maintenance projects.

Responds to all building-related safety concerns.

Maintains departmental compliance with hotel maintenance procedures.

Supports hotel departmental maintenance programs and executes daily, weekly and monthly checklists, as assigned.

Assist management in specifying proper supplies and equipment for operations.

Involved in the proper cleaning and preventive maintenance of pool/spa area. Responsible for maintaining the Pool/Spa Maintenance Log up-to-date at all times.

Job Qualifications & Requirements

The ideal candidate will have at least one (1) to two (2) years of experience, preferably previous construction or hotel maintenance department experience.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from trade school or a combination of education training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

High school diploma preferred. 2-year or 4-year degree in related field is a big plus.

All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance at all times.

Specific uniform and PPE required articles of clothing, may be provided and/or required to be used.

The individual in this position must possess certain required knowledge, skills and abilities, and must be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pleasant demeanor.

Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

Basic mechanical aptitude for operation and repair of hotel equipment.

Basic mathematical aptitude for calculating needed materials, chemicals and products for needed repairs.

Additional language ability is strongly desired.

Positive, upbeat individuals who can deliver total guest satisfaction.

General knowledge of technical and moderately technical fields, i.e., carpentry, painting, electrical, masonry, tiling, etc.

Local candidate who is familiar with the geography of the City of Encinitas, as well as, the San Diego County area, and the surrounding venues and attractions.

Ability to handle stressful and/or emergency situations in a calm, professional manner.

Must have the ability to communicate clearly and directly with guests using a positive, clear speaking voice.

The hospitality business functions seven (7) days a week, twenty-four hours a day. Flexible availability to work various shifts including nights, weekends & holidays, as needed.
