Life Skills Coordinator (Part-Time)

The Life Skills Coordinator is a part-time position (working up to 10 hours per week) overseeing the Life Skills Parenting & Education Program as part of New Beginnings Counseling Center (NBCC). This program provides group services in partnership with community-based organizations in Santa Barbara. The program primarily offers parenting groups to low-income, at-risk parents to support them with learning new skills and acquiring tools needed to make healthy, positive and lasting behavioral changes for their families. The program is provided at no cost to both clients and its sponsoring agencies. The services consist of a series of psychoeducational classes (in group format) designed to expand parents’ knowledge base of child development, attachment, bonding and hands-on strategies for improved parenting skills. Over the years, the Life Skills Parenting & Education Program has grown to also offer group therapy within the Counseling Center to meet various needs of the community, including but not limited to a curriculum-based Anxiety Skills Group, Anger Management Group and Interpersonal Skills Group.

The Life Skills Coordinator will:

Oversee all activities relating to the provision of the program

Serve as a liaison between NBCC and partnering community agencies

Coordinate the offering of time-limited and ongoing psychoeducational classes and groups for the community and NBCC’s community partners

Schedule classes/trainings with internal and external staff

Generate monthly and year-end reports to the Executive Director and Clinical Director containing qualitative, demographic and outcome data for all people served through the Life Skills Program

Ensure at least 100 people are served per fiscal year

Network with community-based organizations to identify and develop new community partnerships for program expansion

Attend monthly YouthWell Linkages Meeting to maintain collaboration and share updates

Aid in selection and creation of anecdotal client success stories for the NBCC Newsletter

Summarize and report out metrics to support with the Grants and Development departments, as needed

Requirements include proficiency in the areas of representing NBCC as a key liaison with professionalism, integrity and excellent communication skills both written and oral; networking to meet community agency partners to develop collaborative working relationships; high-level f attention to detail and reliable follow-through; oversight of the program and consistent coordination to improve and monitor psychoeducational services offered; analyze and evaluate programmatic and administrative activities; prepare detailed reports and recommendations; ability to make presentations to civic and community organizations to provide information concerning the program; and, the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, community partners, service providers (volunteer counselors), client advocacy groups, and the general public. Bilingual/bicultural candidate preferred, but not required.

A bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Work, Psychology or related field required with 2+ years of experience working within community mental health or a related field. Intern hours and clinical supervision available for licensure track. The position is part-time with an hourly pay range of $21.00 -$25.00 per hour.
