Summary of Job Details

Under guidance of the Financial Coordinator, completes contract/grant administration for the Earth Research Institute. Serves as an expert regarding the many aspects and complexities of research proposal preparations and grant administration. Serves as first point of contact for many of the department's Principal Investigator's (PI) regarding multiple agencies' guidelines and policies. As part of these complexities, analyzes and interprets both Federal and State research protocols; for both agency requirements and campus policy, providing advice to Principal Investigator (PI) and assists the PI in the preparation of the proposals or agency requests. As the activities of the Institute are heavily computational in nature, thus must ensure the various proposals address computing needs. The Earth Research Institute is an ORU serving faculty and researchers from the Bren School, EEMB, Earth Science, Geography, MSI/NCEAS, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer Science, Anthropology, Environmental Studies, and Physics. Additionally, ERI is home to two Centers: the Center for the Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology (CEIN), and the Cheadle Center for Biodiversity & Ecological Restoration (CCBER). ERI manages pre and post administration for numerous types of extramurally funded projects including research, environmental restoration, fellowships, curation, conferences and science education. Maintains knowledge of 1) contract and grant policies of the University and approximately 80 extramural funding agencies, 2) University policies and procedures of Personnel, Academic Personnel, Graduate Division, Accounting, Travel, Purchasing, and Business Services. Work with other Team members to achieve Institute goals.

Required Qualifications

Ability to apply contracts and grants concepts to review complex grant or contract proposals and obtain.

Ability to provide guidance on complex research administration matters, including compliance regulations.

Ability to apply professional knowledge to prepare, review and/or approve financial transactions within specific agency guidelines.

Ability to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting.

Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
